Kham Muang Province - Explore Kham Muang Province

http://www.hotsia.com > Kham Muang Province > Explore Kham Muang Province Kham Muang is a lesser-known province. The capital city is Thakhek, located opposite Nakhon Phanom province. It is the site of the third Mekong River bridge between Thailand and Laos. Most tourist attractions in Kham Muang are caves, with the world-famous Kong Lor Cave being very large, stretching 7 kilometers. Kham Muang also has a newly discovered cave called Pha Cave or Buddha Cave.

This cave is located on a high cliff and contains hundreds of ancient Buddha statues made of gold, silver, and wood mixed together. There are many other caves such as Chiang Rieb Cave, Nang Aen Cave, and Phra In Cave. In Thakhek, there is also a giant ancient wall made of stone that no one could have built. The locals say it was built by giants from the dinosaur era. The giant wall is sure to become famous in the future. No one knows how it was made, but it is definitely a strange and incredible tourist attraction. Check more information here.

Other lesser-known attractions include the Exploding Boat, located in Borikhamxay province but near Kham Muang, sharing the same travel route. Not only caves are interesting; Bua Rapa town, a former battlefield, still has tanks parked in people's yards and war vehicles. Few people visit this town because it is far away. I heard about it from locals. Someday, I will visit. Mr.Hotsia spent several days in Kham Muang province, staying at Ban Nahin.

At Thakhek, I was impressed by the night view of Nakhon Phanom province seen from the Thakhek side because it is beautiful with temples lit up nicely. There is no curfew in Thakhek. When traveling to southern Laos, Pakse town requires returning before 11 PM. Savannakhet is a border area before night travel. Thakhek has no curfew, but shops close at midnight. I recommend staying at Thakhek Travel Lodge, which Lonely Planet praises as a good place to stay. Rooms start from 200 baht, and many foreigners stay there.

Motorbikes are available for rent here. They provide maps for touring, just like my trip. One day is enough to see everything. Follow my route: Nang Aen Cave, Chiang Rieb, Tha Farang, Buddha Cave, and finish at the Giant Wall. (See Thakhek city travel map) Kham Muang is worth visiting. It is a province with many uniquely shaped limestone mountains. Just driving through the limestone mountain ranges surrounding the area is worthwhile. Enjoy your trip, mr.hotsia

mr.hotsia recommends hotels in Thakhek city for convenient travel to Pha Cave or Buddha Cave, and to take the Exploding Boat on the Ton River. Map location of Kham Muang province in Laos.
