The Lao call this bread 'Khao Jee' (grilled rice bread). It can be eaten plain without any seasoning or just as is.

Or you can add various toppings before eating. On this trip, I relied on these long bread sticks for many meals. Sometimes I didn’t choose carefully and got stale ones. Today in Luang Prabang, locals eat grilled rice bread with many toppings. I tried it to see how it tastes. For Luang Prabang locals, breakfast is usually simple food, sometimes Pho or grilled rice bread like this. Lunch is often Pho again.

Dinner is street food sold in alleys I recommend (affordable food alleys). The routine of Luang Prabang people: middle-aged and older people give alms in the morning. After alms giving, some buy grilled rice bread before going home. I will write about this next time because I must confess I woke up late today and missed the sticky rice alms giving, so I walked around to capture the morning atmosphere and came across this grilled rice bread. I really want to eat Luang Prabang grilled rice bread.

The grilled rice bread stalls in Luang Prabang are located at the night market intersection. Luang Prabang is very small; don’t compare it to Chiang Mai. They are completely different sizes. So it’s easy to find your way around the whole town. The grilled rice bread is sold only in the morning. As tourists increased, the vendors’ ways changed too. From eating just locally, they now sell to tourists. The grilled rice bread sellers call out to foreign customers fluently.

But locals still stand firm eating grilled rice bread the traditional way. Making Luang Prabang grilled rice bread starts with a bread stick spread with Luang Prabang Jaew Bong (a chili paste). This Jaew Bong is different from the Isan version; it’s more like a chili paste similar to our roasted chili paste. After spreading Jaew Bong, cucumber, shredded egg, shredded pork sausage, and tomato sauce are added. Then it’s wrapped in paper. Some cut it into two pieces, some don’t.

This grilled rice bread with toppings is the standard that Luang Prabang locals love. If you want to experience the Luang Prabang atmosphere, just ask for this recipe. Add shredded pork floss all over and tomato sauce, and you get the grilled rice bread that locals enjoy. After finishing my grilled rice bread, I took a walk to enjoy the morning atmosphere of Luang Prabang. At the night market street, mornings are very quiet. In front of Wat Mai, the atmosphere is nice. Anyone visiting Luang Prabang should take photos here.

In Luang Prabang, this small World Heritage city, believe it or not, there are more than 24 temples combined. Wow, that’s a lot! I walked around photographing temples alone for a while, then returned to my accommodation in Joma Alley, which I mentioned is a good quality, affordable lodging area. Let me remind you again: Joma Coffee Alley, next to the post office, is a great place for affordable accommodation. I uploaded the information on http://www.youtube.com/user/MrHotsia almost immediately after finishing the trip.

If you want to follow me instantly, this is the place. Wherever I travel, the next trip, see you on YouTube for fast updates.... Mr.Hotsia mr.hotsia recommends hotels in Luang Prabang near the grilled rice bread stalls. Try it out. General information about Luang Prabang (from Wiki): Luang Prabang is an ancient city of the Lan Xang Kingdom since its establishment, originally named Muang Sua (pronounced Sua). In 1300 BE, Khun Lo, considered the first Lao king, established Muang Sua as the capital of Lan Xang and renamed it Chiang Thong.

When King Fa Ngum (1896 - 1916 BE) returned from Cambodia, after he and his father fled due to being expelled by the previous king, who was actually Fa Ngum’s grandfather, he gathered forces in Siem Reap and led thousands of troops to reclaim the throne and establish the kingdom.

Later, during the reign of King Photisarath, he invited the Phra Bang Buddha statue, originally enshrined in Vieng Kham, to be placed in Chiang Thong, the capital city. Chiang Thong was then called Luang Prabang. Early morning in Luang Prabang, the weather is very pleasant. Wat Mai Suwannaphumaram (N. Nu Laow) is one of the temples. Luang Prabang was registered as a World Heritage site because it has many ancient temples, distinctive colonial-style houses, and the town is located at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan rivers, surrounded by beautiful nature.

The people of Luang Prabang are cheerful, friendly, and have beautiful customs and traditions. This matches UNESCO’s criteria as follows: (ii) - It has had a significant influence promoting development in architecture, monuments, sculpture, gardens, and landscapes, as well as related arts or human settlements.

These developments occurred at some point or place in the world preserving culture. It is an outstanding example of a type of building representing cultural, social, artistic, scientific, technological, and industrial development in human history. (v) - It is an outstanding example of human culture, customs, architecture, construction methods, or human settlements.
