This trip continued to Xiangkhouang and Vientiane. Traveling with others is different from solo travel. Traveling in a group by rented car is much more convenient.

If traveling in a group to Luang Prabang, arrive in the evening at the pier, early morning outside Luang Prabang city, then rent a car or if full, head to stay in the main alley near Joma Coffee, behind Luang Prabang Post Office. This area has many budget accommodations around 500 baht per night. After settling in and resting briefly, go for a walk to the Luang Prabang dinner alley at the start of the night market street. The food here is delicious, giving insight into the local lifestyle. After a full meal, stroll a bit through the night market.

Wake up early at 5 AM to give sticky rice alms, then visit the morning market in the alley near Backpacker Alley or opposite the Phousi Stupa entrance. Afterwards, have breakfast like locals at Prachaniyom restaurant by the Mekong River, popular with both Thai and Luang Prabang people. For daytime tours, arrange a songthaew (shared truck) in Luang Prabang for sightseeing. Songthaews are cheaper than vans. Rent one to visit Kuang Si Waterfall outside the city, about ten kilometers away.

The price for renting a songthaew is about 1000 baht per vehicle. For about 5 people, it's worth it. Along the way, stops include visiting villages making cotton fabric, weaving, or scenic riverside coffee shops where I stopped. Return in the afternoon or evening and get dropped off at your accommodation. Rest a bit, then in the evening or afternoon, walk around the World Heritage zone downtown, visit temples, explore alleys to see old houses, and greet locals. You can rent a bicycle for about 40 baht. Visiting temples and shrines takes time. In the evening, park at the foot of Phousi Hill.

Then hike up to watch the sunset over the Mekong River from Phousi Hill. The climb takes 20-30 minutes at a relaxed pace. Phousi closes around 6 PM. Afterward, cycle back to your accommodation, shower, rest a bit, then go out to a nice restaurant to sip wine or Lao beer by the night market walkway, watching people pass by. Drinks in Laos are not as expensive as in Thailand. After a long day, celebrate a little. Or shop for souvenirs or revisit the night market.

Sitting and sipping a cold drink is also fine, depending on your preference. This style of traveling Luang Prabang in 2014 and 2015 as described by Mr.Hotsia is open for anyone to follow. Mostly, it’s like this. For return trips, some fly in and out, or come by boat and leave by plane, or come by boat and leave by bus to continue traveling elsewhere, depending on your plan. During peak season, there are flights from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai. Daily flights operate between Luang Prabang and Bangkok.

Traveling by bus from Luang Prabang to Vientiane is too tough. If you want to go, stay in Vang Vieng for a night or two before continuing to Vientiane by bus. Alternatively, fly with Lao Airlines directly to Vientiane. Enjoy your trip! If you have questions, contact us via Facebook 'Fun Travel' or the email provided on the website.
