I happened to travel to Phu Piang Fa. I traveled from Luang Prabang by van at 1:30 PM heading to Vang Vieng (fare). After about 4 hours traveling south, I saw the sun was about to set, so I asked the driver to stop for photos.
The driver told me we were almost at the Phu Piang Fa viewpoint. So I came to visit and watch one of the most beautiful sunsets in Laos here. The reason the sunset at Phu Piang Fa is so stunning is because the mountains here are limestone with unique shapes. The most notable is the triangular mountain seen on the way to Vang Vieng from the Phu Piang Fa peak. Besides the unusual mountain shapes, the elevation is about 1500 meters above sea level (Phu Kradueng 1460
meters) and the 360-degree panoramic view makes Phu Piang Fa one of Mr.Hotsia's favorite viewpoints. At Phu Piang Fa, there are souvenir shops and restaurants where you can enjoy a Lao beer if you drive yourself and have plenty of time. On the summit, large logs are stacked with one end extending over a small cliff. Those brave enough might stand there for photos, but Mr.Hotsia just relaxed lying "planking" on the logs.
