My favorite dish is Khao Un, which is Khao Soi topped with something like yellow mayonnaise. Its charm lies in being hot, perfect for cold weather, especially in winter. Hsipaw is a Tai Yai town. Tai Yai noodles or SHAN noodles are popular. If you visit, you must try them. For air-conditioned restaurants in Hsipaw, go to Mr. Charles Guesthouse. Street food stalls are not recommended due to dust. There is a fresh coffee shop in Hsipaw I like to visit called

Pontoon Coffee, run by three Tai Yai ladies selling fresh coffee, some Western food, and fruit smoothies. I think the owner is a foreigner. The shop is not far from Mr. Charles Guesthouse, just a short walk. I couldn’t find other fresh coffee shops. Restaurants in Hsipaw include Indian-style places selling roti and tea, and Tai Yai places selling Khao Soi. Most restaurants are roadside with many options. The morning market offers many local foods and snacks. Don’t forget to check it out.

Tai Yai order-made food vendors can communicate in Thai well enough, making it a fun and good experience to speak Thai with the Tai Yai people. Street food vendors include both Tai Yai and Burmese; choose the style you prefer. Mr.Hotsia, March 2015. I stayed at Mr. Charles Guesthouse. Click here to book the same hotel.
