Myanmar Inle Lake Boat Tour to Experience the Lifestyle of Inle Lake People
Boat tour to experience the lifestyle of Inle Lake people http://www.hotsia.com > Inle Lake > Boat tour to experience the lifestyle of Inle Lake people Travel information for Inle Lake, Nyaungshwe town, Shan state. Visit Inle Lake, Nyaungshwe town, enjoy papaya salad with Inle girls, and take a boat tour on Inle Lake. The main activity is boating around Inle Lake. Everywhere in Nyaungshwe, people will ask if you want to take a boat trip.

The average price I paid was 450 baht for a little over half a day, and 600 baht if you want to watch the sunset on the boat as well. I recommend using the hotel’s boat service because it’s the most trustworthy since they want to provide the best service. The price might be slightly higher than outside boats but it’s worth it. For small groups of two, if possible, you don’t need to join others. But if you want to save money or meet new friends, you can join group trips arranged by the hotel. Everyone visiting Inle Lake must take a boat tour.
The boat tour starts at 9:00 AM. The boat sails along the canal heading to Inle Lake. The canal is about 4 kilometers long. If you have been to Tonle Lake, it’s somewhat similar but here there are fewer villagers along the canal. When the boat reaches the river mouth, there are 3-4 boats showing traditional fishing baskets. The 'basket show' means they pose in various ways for tourists to take photos, including rowing with their feet. If you want great photos, take them here first and don’t forget to tip a little.
When the boat goes out into the lake, you will see many fishing boats using nets mostly. I rarely saw basket traps used. This lake is home to a group called the Intha people. They live by farming on floating islands they create themselves in the middle of the lake. They mainly grow tomatoes on the lake. During the boat trip, you will see the atmosphere. For a better experience, I recommend asking the boat driver to visit their homes and have a meal with them.
To get closer to the Intha culture, I use this approach too. Throughout the day, the boat doesn’t stay on the water all the time. They stop at temples. There is a temple known for a cat jumping through a hoop, but when I visited, the cat didn’t jump. Also, visit temples with many pagodas and slow the boat down to observe how villagers live in each house. Inle Lake is not only inhabited by the Intha but also by the Shan people.
When I visited a temple, I took the chance to walk around the nearby village and met Shan villagers who invited me to their home for tea. For those who cannot swim, wearing a life jacket throughout the trip is recommended. Many tourists visit, so please be considerate when taking photos and share the space without blocking others’ views. For lunch, the boat usually stops at a restaurant. If you don’t want to pay high prices, you can walk out and eat outside.
You might want to order something if you sit at their place. The highlight of Inle Lake is the lifestyle of the boat people, the Inle people. You can ask the boat to stop near local fishing boats to see their real way of life, what fish they catch, and what they eat. Hotsia - Exciting Travel, book guesthouses, stay with Mr.Hotsia.
