Authentic Burmese Poy Sang Long Festival Travel Mandalay 2015 Travel information Mandalay 2015 Traveling Mandalay 2015 Returning to explore Myanmar again, I flew from Bangkok Don Mueang with AirAsia and took the free AirAsia shuttle bus from Mandalay airport to the city center about 40 minutes away. If you miss the bus, you can walk outside the airport where taxis are available for about 300 baht. Mandalay 2015 not much has changed.
I stayed at the Fortune Mandalay Hotel, the same place. I still think it’s the best value for backpackers. The room costs 450 baht per night, with a separate bathroom and includes breakfast. Splitting the cost between two people is just over 200 baht each. I once tried staying at AD1 Hotel in the market area, next to a construction site with dust, no window in the room, but right by the market. I still prefer Fortune; it’s like my second home in Mandalay.
All the must-visit tourist spots in Mandalay include Bagan to see the sea of pagodas, about 4 hours by car from Mandalay; Pyin Oo Lwin, the former British hill station known as Myanmar’s mini India; if you have more time, take a day trip to Inle Lake; visit Taunggyi, Inle, Kalaw; or take the train passing through Gokteik to Hsipaw. In Mandalay city, don’t miss Mahamuni Buddha and U Bein Bridge.
Mandalay Hill, Mandalay Palace. Other city activities include the interesting Mandalay-style foot massage. Amazing Mandalay offers excellent services. For planning a Mandalay trip, if you have 3 days 2 nights, focus on Mandalay city alone. If you have a week, include Bagan and possibly Inle Lake, then fly back or return via Tachilek through Mae Sai, or fly back from Mandalay to Thailand.
If you have two weeks, you can cover all tourist spots in a loop: Monywa, Bagan, Mrauk U, Taunggyi, Nyaung Shwe (Inle), Kalaw, Mandalay, Pyin Oo Lwin, Hsipaw (by train through Gokteik), then return by car to Mandalay and fly back to Thailand with AirAsia. This plan is balanced and less tiring. Train travel in Myanmar can be uncomfortable with crowds, needing to cross people near toilets, which is unpleasant. Sitting bent on the train for long can cause knee pain.
Travel options to Mandalay have increased, including entering via Mae Sai and flying from Tachilek to Mandalay. I talked with foreigners who use this route returning from Taunggyi, flying from Heho to Tachilek, then entering Mae Sai. I haven’t used this route myself. I flew from Bangkok Don Mueang to Mandalay both times I visited. You can also take a bus from Yangon, but I still prefer flying from Don Mueang to Mandalay.
In my 2015 Mandalay trip, I was especially impressed by Pyin Oo Lwin’s cool weather. I loved the sea of pagodas in Bagan. I enjoyed Burmese food at the restaurant opposite Fortune Mandalay Hotel, which serves very cold beer by the glass, delicious sweet and sour stir-fry, and tasty crispy pork. These are my highlights from Mandalay 2015. mr.Hotsia Enjoy your trip February 2015 Book hotels in Mandalay now Recommended hotel in Mandalay: Fortune Hotel MANDALAY
