This city has a sea of pagodas popular among tourists worldwide. Bagan or Pugam (BAGAN) is located in the dry land area in central Myanmar on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River, 145 km southwest of Mandalay. It covers an area of about 65 square kilometers. The pagodas of Bagan are the main attraction drawing tourists from all over the world. The Sea of Pagodas of Bagan (Ruins

of Bagan) were built from the mid-11th century to the late 13th century. Ananda Temple is one of the largest and best-preserved, built in 1105. Bagan or Pugam (BAGAN) has 2,217 pagodas. The first pagoda is Shwezigon Pagoda, built by King Anawrahta. To visit the Sea of Pagodas of Bagan (Ruins of Bagan), you can hire a taxi, motorcycle, or horse carriage. For sunrise viewing, you need to book in advance.

If you go in the evening for sunset, you can find transport on the spot. I recommend contacting the hotel to use their services; the staff speak some English and are trustworthy and reliable. The best time to visit the Sea of Pagodas is not during the rainy season because you have to climb steep pagodas. Unless you can afford it, you can take a balloon ride. From what I read, balloons do not operate during the rainy season, May to September. What impressed Mr.Hotsia the most was watching the sunrise.

Looking out feels like a beautiful painting. It's worth waiting from before sunrise, around 5:30 AM. Don't forget to bring a flashlight for climbing in the dark as there is no lighting on the way. When the balloon floats over the pagodas, it is very beautiful. Mr.Hotsia enjoyed the trip in February 2015. Waiting to see the Sea of Pagodas.
