Mandalay local cuisine, hand-mixed noodles before eating, Mahamuni Buddha face washing ceremony, authentic Burmese Poi Sang Long, a two-thousand-year-old Buddhist heritage (Mahamuni Buddha Temple) Mahamuni Buddha is located in Mandalay city and is one of the most important sites for pilgrims both inside and outside Myanmar. Originally located in Rakhine State, it is highly revered by the Burmese people and is considered a representation of the life of the Buddha himself. On February 17, 1988
the ritual of washing the face and teeth of Mahamuni Buddha began. Every morning at 4 a.m., the sound of drums comes from nearby. The ritual starts with wiping the face with a towel, then cleaning the teeth of Mahamuni Buddha. At the end of each day, these rituals are followed by a large number of devotees. Men sit in the restricted area, while women and children sit behind and beside this area. The face is very unusual to me.
On my first day, my camera battery ran out while filming the video. I believe anyone who comes to pay respects to the face will be amazed and deeply faithful. The temple is located in Mandalay city, not outside the city. You can hire a motorcycle taxi to the temple for 1-2 USD one way. In front of the temple, there are many three-wheelers and motorcycles for hire. If you have time, I suggest you see the face washing ritual, which I find unusual and have never seen anywhere else in my travels.
At Mr.Hotsia's place, women are not allowed to apply gold leaf or enter the restricted area. Men can enter, buy gold from the temple, and apply it. Every Buddhist visiting Mandalay must visit the Mahamuni Buddha Temple.
