Cross the Irrawaddy River and turn left to the north of Mandalay, on the west bank of the Irrawaddy River. The bell casting began in 1808 and was completed in 1810. The bell weighs 90 tons.
The bell's rim diameter is 4.95 meters, giving a circumference of approximately 15.47 meters. The overall height of the bell is 6.3 meters. There are two ways to travel to Mingun and see this giant bell: one is with mr.hotsia by renting a motorcycle with a driver from Mandalay city. The rental cost is 15 USD or 15,000 kyats. I left Mandalay at 3 PM, arrived at Mingun at 4 PM, spent two hours taking photos and sightseeing, then returned to the city.
You can also travel to Mingun by boat, with two daily departures from Mandalay city at 8:30 AM and 8:45 AM. Looking at the map, you can see that you don't need to detour around the Irrawaddy River bridge; the route is much shorter. For the return trip, the boat leaves Mingun around 1 PM. When you arrive at Mingun, I recommend walking around without renting a vehicle. There are three nearby attractions, and the paths between them have many souvenir shops. mr.hotsia August 2013.
