Hand-mixed Noodles Before Eating, The Washing Ceremony of the Maha Muni Buddha, Authentic Burmese Poi Sang Long Festival, Using Mobile Phones and 3G Internet in Myanmar, January 30, 2014, Mr. Hotsia's Exciting Myanmar Trip. This trip I bought a Telenor SIM card, which is the same group as Dtac in Thailand. The SIM costs 10,000 Kyat (300 Baht) with 5,000 Kyat (150 Baht) credit included. To call Thailand from Myanmar, dial 0066 followed by the number without the leading zero, for example
006684xxxxxxx, etc. The call rate to Thailand is only 4 Baht per minute. Telenor has just launched in Myanmar 4 months ago. The seller said this SIM can access the internet with a rate of 300 Baht per 1 Mb. You can top up anytime. Traveling in Myanmar today is easier to stay connected with calls, internet, Facebook, and Line. There are many SIM shops in Mandalay. When buying, they will help set it up for you easily. Have a great trip! Hotels in Myanmar are fewer and more expensive than in Thailand. Book hotels in Myanmar or find Myanmar travel info here.
Additional info from my trip: The Telenor SIM did not work in Shan State where I went, including Inle, Taunggyi, and Hsipaw. However, it worked well in Mandalay, Pyin Oo Lwin, and Bagan. Another option for those who want internet and calls in Shan State is to buy an MPT SIM, which works fine. Mr. Hotsia's Exciting Trip, February. Book hotels in Mandalay now. The phone number I used in Myanmar cost 150 Baht and included internet. Myanmar SIMs work well with Thai phones, especially the Telenor SIM I used.
