This is a public park located next to Sule Pagoda. The official name of this park is Maha Dura Park, named after the general who first led the army against the British. Another name commonly used is Fitch Square. In this park stands the Burmese Independence Monument, commemorating independence from Britain in 1948. Many Burmese people come here to relax. I saw many young couples sitting and kissing in various corners, which locals consider normal.
Near the monument next to Sule Pagoda, there is a fountain and a wide plaza. The view here is beautiful, attracting many tourists who come to relax and take photos. Locals also visit to take pictures. This is one of Yangon's tourist attractions. I recommend not rushing to leave; spend some time here to enjoy the view, admire the beautiful buildings and churches, and observe the lifestyle of Yangon locals. Near the exit by Sule Pagoda, there are several accurate palm readers sitting under trees. I tried it myself, and it was very accurate. Haha. mr.hotsia June 2013
