I asked locals in Bueng Kan which restaurants are delicious and also tasted some myself. The first recommendation is a breakfast restaurant popular among Bueng Kan locals. They like to eat rice porridge in the morning and line up to buy it. This restaurant is opposite Samanmit Hotel, opens early and sells out by late morning. There are actually two types of rice porridge. The first is the rice porridge I took you to eat in Vientiane (see rice porridge). The other is rice noodle porridge like the one at this breakfast restaurant I’m recommending.

Bueng Kan Province is opposite Pakxan, Laos, so the eating culture is similar. Bueng Kan rice noodle porridge, Bueng Kan breakfast restaurant. The charm of Bueng Kan rice porridge and others lies in the fresh, soft, fragrant noodles. When seasoned to taste, it becomes delicious. The porridge includes pork blood, meatballs, minced pork, similar to kuay jab. The broth made from pork bones has a distinctive flavor. Adding the rice noodles gives it a unique delicious taste. This rice porridge restaurant has been around for a long time.

I think everyone in Bueng Kan city has tried this restaurant. If you come to Bueng Kan, you must not miss this place. Another breakfast restaurant I didn’t try is "Bueng Kan Pan-fried Egg". This place sells sets including pan-fried eggs and bread for 50 baht per set. I’m not fond of non-Thai style breakfasts, so I didn’t try it, but judging by the customers, it must be tasty. After breakfast, the next recommended restaurant is located diagonally opposite Samranmit Hotel.

It’s a small shop run by two Bueng Kan ladies. I’m not sure if they have Pakxan heritage. This place focuses on healthy drinks and is becoming popular in Bueng Kan. The shop recently opened but is already very popular. If you have time, stop by and say hello. The owners are very friendly. I used this place as a source of information about Bueng Kan tourism, asking everything I wanted to know. For lunch, try "Wichian Buri Grilled Chicken" and green bean salad from the Wichian Buri grilled chicken shop.

Looking at Bueng Kan Province, I’ve never seen a specific Wichian Buri grilled chicken recipe. When I visited Wichian Buri, I only found the old-style grilled chicken shop Ta Pae 2. So there must be something different in Bueng Kan. This shop offers grilled chicken and papaya salad. Bueng Kan locals flock here at noon. For a snack while cycling around town, try the traditional Bueng Kan coffee shop. This place sells coffee and delicious Thai custard desserts. The custard here is truly tasty.

For me, the real charm of this shop is joining friendly conversations with Bueng Kan locals. Rest from cycling around Bueng Kan and chat with the locals. For those who like a comfortable seat and a nice atmosphere, try the cake and dessert shop. Many people like this place. It has air conditioning and a cozy coffee spot. The shop is near the morning market, with a long, beautiful, and unusual Malabar tree in front, perfect for sitting and sipping coffee while watching Bueng Kan locals walk to the market. Mukka shop is another recommended place by Bueng Kan locals.

Oh, I forgot to mention, there is no fresh coffee here, only Nescafe. The Healthy Love Home shop is warmly welcomed by Bueng Kan ladies. It’s a health food restaurant. At night, for dinner, go to the riverside near the Mae Nam Hotel. Along the route, many restaurants open with various styles to choose from. I chose Korean BBQ "Jane Korean BBQ". This buffet is packed with Bueng Kan locals in the evening because it’s delicious and costs only 99 baht per person. It’s a great deal. I ate alone and was charged 129 baht.

After eating, stroll along the Mekong River at Pakxan and return to your accommodation. It’s comfortable and not far. You probably have an idea now of which restaurants to visit in Bueng Kan. Travel comfortably like an independent tourist without eating at expensive places. Save money for more important expenses so you can travel longer. But if you have extra money, that’s fine.
