Without a private car, it can be a bit difficult to visit.

Today, I will introduce Bueng Kan Province city center to show what is worth visiting, recommend accommodations, restaurants, and activities for traveling in Bueng Kan Province. The busy area in Bueng Kan city is mainly along one road near the post office. That area is the stop for songthaew buses running between Bueng Kan and nearby districts. There are gold shops and agricultural equipment stores. Other streets are not crowded, mostly straight roads with a clear city layout, so you won't get lost when visiting.
Actually, you can walk around the city in just 30 minutes, but if you want to explore more, cycling is recommended. Ride around and stop as you please. Cars are not recommended because they are too big and don't allow close interaction with locals. For city touring, cycling to visit local homes, stopping to enjoy delicious snacks and food, and chatting with locals is best. Another area is along the Mekong River, a road stretching several hundred meters along the riverbank, perfect for cycling or walking.
You can also shop on days when the Lao market is open, which is Tuesday and Friday (read about the market). The Mekong River here is wider than at Chiang Khong but you can still see the Pakxan side and the Sun River flowing into the Mekong, which is the origin of the name Bueng Kan Province. At night in Bueng Kan, houses are visible. In the evening, I recommend the Mekong riverside where restaurants line the riverbank, but they are located on the inner road side, unlike the Lao side where they are right next to the water.
Thai side restaurants are permanent establishments, while the Lao side has floating stalls set up in the evening, with only two permanent restaurants. For dinner, I chose to eat at "Jane Korean BBQ," a buffet at 99 baht per person. Korean BBQ or something similar to pork pan grilling and shrimp grilling. About 20 years ago, I lived in Isan where Korean BBQ was already popular. I understand people recently brought it from Isan and called it pork pan grilling or something like that. I ate alone and was charged 129 baht, still worth it.
After eating, I went for a walk along the Mekong River, preparing to travel to Pakxan the next day. It was rainy and stormy, so I changed plans from Phu Thok to crossing to Pakxan, Laos instead. Early morning light rain, had to wear rain gear to walk around Bueng Kan city. Walking got tiring, so I switched to cycling around Bueng Kan city. Walking in the city center, I met monks collecting alms.
