Nang Rong District has many rice fields, green fields, and a rural atmosphere. Locals catch fish with nets. It is a district worth visiting in a local way that I like. Nang Rong also has the largest Luang Pu Mun in the world, recently completed. Additional history of Nang Rong District from wiki: During the height of the Khmer Empire, Nang Rong or Phanom Rong was home to the Khmer people. The Khmer ruled this land for a long time. Ancient city ruins show Khmer power in this area periodically.

From Phimai and Phanom Rung stone castles, the oldest artifacts found are various deities and ancient Khmer-style earthenware water jars. After the Khmer declined, the Mon people gained power here, creating a new ethnic group called Khmer-Mon, a mix of Khmer and Mon. Later, when the Mon declined, the Thai expanded their territory here. The Thai expansion into this area came from two directions:

Nakhon Ratchasima and Luang Prabang routes. There is no evidence of when exactly they arrived, but it is assumed the Thai took control during the Sukhothai or early Ayutthaya periods. Evidence includes ancient Buddha statues mostly from the Lopburi period. After the Thai took control, Nang Rong became an administrative center with continuous local rulers. During Ayutthaya, Nang Rong, Talung (now Prakhon Chai District), Buriram, and Phutthaisong were under Ayutthaya, governed by the chief official at Nakhon Ratchasima, a fourth-class city. Nang Rong was a first-class city.

After the second fall of Ayutthaya, powerful Thai leaders formed factions to govern themselves to regain independence. Initially, the Nang Rong ruler joined the faction of Muen Theppipit, ruler of Phimai. Later, King Taksin gathered forces to suppress the factions successfully.

He led the army to defeat the Phimai faction. Seeing their defeat, the Nang Rong ruler separated to join the ruler of Champasak. After King Taksin subdued all factions, he crowned himself king and established Thonburi as the capital. In 1789, the Nang Rong ruler conspired with the rulers of O and In of Champasak to rebel against Thonburi.

King Taksin then ordered King Rama I, then Chaophraya Chakri, to suppress the rebellion. The Nang Rong governor was captured by Nakhon Ratchasima officials and executed at the Bodhi tree in front of Nang Rong School (Sangkhakrit Anusorn) today. Nang Rong then became subordinate to Nakhon Ratchasima. After the execution, the capital appointed Nai Pin and Nai Ma, sons of the Nang Rong governor, to govern Nang Rong.

They ruled until Phra Wisetsangkharm (Krit Boonyakrit), a descendant of Nai Pin, became ruler. After his death, Phra Nang Rong Phakdi (Sutjai Boonyakrit), his daughter, succeeded him. Later, Phra Nang Rong Phakdi was arrested for killing her father-in-law (Luang Udomphanawet, ancestor of Udompong family). Nakhon Ratchasima then appointed Luang Yokbat (ancestor of Suraswadi family) as acting ruler.

He built the office and residence at Chumphon field near Ban Nang Rong School (Yutthakarn Rat Wittayakarn) today. This marked the end of Nang Rong as a city with a local ruler. King Chulalongkorn reorganized the administration into ministries and provinces, merging Nang Rong, Buriram, Talung (now Prakhon Chai District), Rattanaburi, Phimai, and Phutthaisong into one called 'Nang Rong area' with Phra Nakhon Phakdi (Thongdee) acting as Nang Rong ruler. Later, Nang Rong's territory changed: Rattanaburi joined Surin, Phimai joined Nakhon Ratchasima, and then Pae city was established as Buriram Province. Nang Rong became a district of Buriram Province.
