The people of Satuek include both Isan and Khmer descendants living happily together. In Satuek town market, many people speak Suay language. When I visited, there was an elephant merit event where they were making traditional sweet treats, which impressed me a lot. The Satuek morning market is very lively. I was impressed by the ground-level stalls at the morning market. Let me tell you, many Satuek girls are very charming. If you don't believe me, just go see for yourself. At night, Satuek has a night market along the main road, Highway 219, heading towards Phayakkhaphum and Maha Sarakham, making the night market very bustling.
Rice porridge is popular around here. Many people come to order rice porridge at several shops in the area. Finding food at night in Satuek is not difficult and it’s delicious too. When I traveled to Satuek, I stayed at Pho Ngern Hotel, an old hotel located opposite the morning market. Walking to the night market is just right in front, very convenient. It’s a bit old but acceptable for a stay and costs only a few hundred baht. Other accommodations along the Mun River are available both in town and outside town. Outside town tends to be resort style, while in town are hotels but far from food places. I recommend staying at Pho Ngern Hotel as the best choice.
