Travel Chiang Rai: Thida Chatphan Chiang Khong

Mr.Hotsia's trip to Chiang Khong includes Giant Caterpillar at Ban Jaempong Market, Ban Ngam Hin, Ban Don Mahawan, Miss Songkran Chiang Khong, the ritual honoring the Pla Buk spirit, Songkran water splashing in Chiang Khong, boat racing in Chiang Khong, Buddha statue bathing procession in Chiang Khong, Songkran almsgiving in Chiang Khong, Songkran merit-making in Chiang Khong. The Thida Chatphan contest is the only one of its kind in Thailand that I have seen, held here in Chiang Khong.
Each tribe or ethnic group sends a beautiful lady dressed in their traditional costume to compete. There are talent performances mostly showcasing their own ethnic culture, such as the Ja Kue dance of the Lahu or Muser people, the life-style dance of the Hmong. The Thida Chatphan stage is at the Buck Pier. It seems less popular than the Miss Songkran Chiang Khong contest, but for Mr.Hotsia, I prefer the Thida Chatphan stage because it offers cultural learning and diverse performances.
The Miss Songkran stage is common in every province and can be seen anywhere, but the Thida Chatphan contest is only in Chiang Khong. Moreover, on days other than the Thida Chatphan contest, the Buck Pier stage is dedicated to the Hmong people, featuring famous Hmong singers and hosts speaking the Hmong language. Locals know this event as the Hmong festival. I really like this stage because it has a unique color compared to others. I even thought it would be great to organize an ethnic Songkran queen contest.
When I watched this stage, I heard a Lue song performed by a Lue ethnic lady. It gave me goosebumps; it was amazing. As for the contest results, that is secondary.
