The structure combines Lanna art with Swiss chalet style. There are wood carvings along the gallery, eaves, and window edges featuring various patterns crafted by Northern artisans. The Doi Tung Royal Villa is located 60 kilometers from Chiang Rai city. Take Highway 110 for 45 kilometers, then turn left onto Highway 1149 for about 15 kilometers. For tourists traveling by bus, purple songthaews are available at the entrance. They depart from 7:00 AM every 20 minutes.

The Doi Tung Royal Villa served as a royal residence for work of the Princess Mother. It was simply built with her personal funds. The villa is entirely wooden with an internal steel frame. The wood used came from shipping crates at Klong Toey Port, presented to the Princess Mother. The finished villa is beautifully crafted, blending Lanna architecture with traditional Swiss homes. The hall ceiling features a star pattern, and there is a balcony at the rear of the villa.

Standing on the balcony offers a beautiful view of Doi Tung. Colorful flower beds line the balcony edges. The villa is open to tourists, who must be guided by official villa guides. Enjoy the cool-climate plants at the Mae Fah Luang Garden, with vibrant flower beds from around the world blooming year-round like a natural carpet changing with the seasons. See the rock garden, fountain garden, and spring water features that change annually during the "Hom Nao" festival from October to April.

Learn about the philosophy of life of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, who gave new life to Doi Tung. Locals affectionately call her Mae Fah Luang. The exhibition uses modern, impressive, and emotional techniques, covering her life from her passing to her early years, meeting the King, royal wedding ceremonies, and life in England, Germany, and the United States.

She cared for two Thai monarchs and, along with Her Royal Highness Princess, worked in education, public health, and charity. She was honored by UNESCO as an Outstanding Person of the 20th Century. Chiang Rai, an ancient city over 700 years old, holds the profound charm of Lanna culture, harmoniously surrounded by forests that have regained their lushness after over 30 years of the Doi Tung Development Project under the Princess Mother's royal grace.

Hill tribes and lowland people around Doi Tung, the highest peak of Doi Nang Non on the Thai-Myanmar border, have shifted from opium cultivation and slash-and-burn farming to agriculture. They now grow cool-climate vegetables, coffee, and macadamia nuts, and produce embroidery connecting local materials and traditional crafts for everyday international use. Meanwhile, 30 ethnic groups continue living peacefully on the hillsides, closely adhering to their traditional customs without being absorbed by urban culture.

The birth year guardian pagoda (Year of the Dog) is the Doi Tung Buddha Relic Pagoda, the most important sacred site in Chiang Rai. It is located atop Doi Tung within Wat Phra That Doi Tung, Huai Khrai Subdistrict, Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai Province. A road branches from Huai Khrai village up to the pagoda. There are two pagodas, with a legend that the Buddha relics were enshrined at Doi Tung three times.

Each time a pagoda was built, but only two pagodas have been restored and remain today. These two pagodas near the Doi Tung Buddha Relic Pagoda are the burial sites for flags of the great monk Mahakassapa. They are well maintained and fenced off. According to legend, the original site was called Doi Din Daeng on the Three-Line Mountain of the Lao Chok people. Later, during the reign of King Uthutarat III of the Singhanawat dynasty ruling Yonok Nakorn in 1452 BE, Mahakassapa brought the left clavicle relic of the Buddha to enshrine here, fulfilling the Buddha's prophecy.

"At this Doi Din Daeng, a great stupa will be built to enshrine the Buddha's relics in the future." The king showed his devotion by summoning the Lao Chok leaders, granting them 100,000 gold coins as land value for Doi Din Daeng, and ordered the construction of the stupa. A 3,000-wa centipede flag was planted on the mountain; where the flag's tail fluttered was set as the stupa base. Thus, Doi Din Daeng was renamed Doi Tung (meaning "flag"). After completion, the relics were enshrined for worship.

Later, during the reign of King Mengrai the Great of the Lao Chok dynasty, the monk Vajirapothi brought 50 Buddha relics to present. King Mengrai ordered the construction of another stupa identical to the original, placed side by side, which still stands today. Chiang Rai people have an annual tradition of climbing the mountain to pay respect to the Buddha relics, the most important sacred site in Chiang Rai.

The Doi Tung Buddha Relic Pagoda is located on the mountain peak. There are two pagodas, with a legend of three enshrinements of Buddha relics at Doi Tung. Each time a pagoda was built, but only these two enshrine the left clavicle relic and smaller relics. The pagodas stand about 2,000 meters above sea level and are a prominent tourist attraction about 45 kilometers from Chiang Rai city in Mae Fah Luang District. The mountain range stretches along the left side of the road to Mae Sai District.

Originally, the mountain was barren, cleared by hill tribes for farming until the Princess Mother visited and declared, "I will plant the forest on Doi Tung." In 1987, the government launched the Doi Tung Development Project to restore the forest and nature. Hill tribes were employed in the reforestation project. Previously, the road to Doi Tung was a sky road, offering open views when driving along it.
