Chiang Rai Frog Spotting
http://www.hotsia.com > A trip by Mr.Hotsia to Chiang Rai to fish in the Mekong River at Chiang Khong until the camera broke. When I was a kid in Bang Bo village, we used gas lamps to spot frogs. On heavy rainy days at the start of the rainy season, frogs would come out of hibernation to mate in the rain. Some used flashlights or gas lanterns. When caught, we cooked them in a delicious santol curry. That was 30 years ago in Bang Bo. Today, you rarely see this there, and not many people do it around my village anymore.

This always makes me nostalgic for those old times, but I never had the chance to do it again. Today in Chiang Khong, I know a guy who is going frog spotting this rainy season. So I prepared some rice field walking shoes, which I never used before, got my camera ready, and went frog spotting with him. On the day I spotted many pairs of frogs, but heavy rain poured down. I found a plastic bag in a local farmer's hut to wrap my camera, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough. Rainwater got in, and my camera broke that day. Repair cost was 5,500 baht.
That was a very expensive frog, costing 5,500 baht per kilogram. But it was worth it to do what I wanted again after waiting a full 30 years. A satisfying trip, satisfying frog spotting. mr.hotsia July 2013. Thanks to Brother Sak, the frog hunter of Chiang Khong. At one point walking in the rice field, the first frog was very small.
