Giant catfish are caught annually between April and May, when they migrate upstream to spawn. Before the fishing season, an important ritual is held every year on April 18th to honor the Giant Catfish Spirit. The ceremony includes offerings of food and drinks to pay respect to sacred spirits. After the ritual, fishing begins using a special large net called

Mong, a specially designed net exclusively for catching giant catfish. The ceremony continues and visitors are welcome to attend. However, nowadays, natural giant catfish are no longer consumed.
