It's incredibly delicious. We mix it with hot steamed rice and eat it with fried pork or boiled vegetables. I discovered this chili paste several years ago when I visited Doi Mae Salong and bought some to try. I've been hooked ever since. There are two types of this Chinese chili paste: one with crispy chicken bits and one without. I prefer the one with crispy chicken bits; it's very tasty.
If you want to buy it, purchase from the market where the price is only 50-60 baht per bottle. However, outside the market for tourists, the price can be hundreds of baht. I found this type of Chinese chili paste in markets in Laos, in the city of Xieng, Luang Namtha, and also in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. It is also sold in other provinces in China at prices slightly cheaper than in the Doi Mae Salong market. When I traveled to China, I bought some to mix with rice there as well.
