Wat Huai Plakang Chedi http://www.hotsia.com > Phop Chok Tham Chedi by Phra Ajarn Phop Chok, Wat Huai Plakang, Chiang Rai Province is located in Rim Kok Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province. Originally, in the year B.E., Phra Ajarn Phop Chok Tissawangso arrived at this area, which at that time did not have a temple like today. However, because Phra Ajarn Phop Chok had knowledge of astrology and fortune telling, it turned out that people who came for fortune telling

Most applied it in their daily lives according to their personal beliefs and achieved success in life, making Phra Ajarn Phop Chok widely known throughout the North and eventually nationwide. Phra Ajarn told that several years ago, a Taiwanese businessman named Lao Pang came for a fortune telling, and Phra Ajarn predicted according to that person's horoscope. Later, this businessman donated several million baht to help build Phop Chok Tham Chedi (seems like the fortune telling was very accurate).

The view looking down the hill at Phop Chok Tham Chedi from an empty field filled with the faith of villagers and people who follow the path of non-attachment to money. A donation of one baht from a poor person can be greater than others. Everyone is equal without discrimination. Today, Wat Huai Plakang has thus created the magnificent Phop Chok Tham Chedi.
A center for Buddhist devotees who have faith and seek something to hold on to in life, including the Buddhist place and the fortune telling of Phra Ajarn Phop Chok. The hill has been improved and the foundation piles have been installed throughout the area to serve as the site for Phop Chok Tham Chedi. The shape is unusual and distinctive, unlike any other I have seen, but the sharp nine-tiered structure somewhat resembles the nine-tiered chedi at Wat Nong Waeng in Khon Kaen Province.

People queue for fortune telling at Wat Huai Plakang. Photo from Wat Huai Plakang. Wat Huai Plakang is located in the middle of rice fields and farmland with very good air quality, suitable for tourism. On the day I visited, the queue for fortune telling extended to the entrance gate. Even though it is far in Chiang Rai, people still come continuously for fortune telling.
The money from fortune telling by Phra Ajarn was used to complete the construction of Phop Chok Tham Chedi. Anyone coming to Chiang Rai should not forget to visit or get a fortune telling, depending on personal belief. Before leaving, I stopped to greet the villagers working in the rice fields nearby and walked around the fields, recalling how hard it was to help my parents farm when I was a child. I wish this place becomes another tourist attraction for Thai people, at least creating jobs for local villagers and providing additional income from tourism.
