They use pulleys to pull the stones up, wash and clean them, then display them for sale in front of their houses. Some families focus on small stones because large stones are too heavy. As they kept searching, stones in this area became scarce, but people already knew that to find beautiful Mekong stones, they must come to Ban Don Maha Wan. Therefore, locals started ordering stones from Luang Prabang, China, and Myanmar to sell here. The stones shown in the pictures are not cheap. Some stones cost tens of thousands of baht! According to the shop owners, most customers are garden landscapers who come here to buy stones. Small stones can be found diving in the Mekong River near Ban Don Maha Wan during the dry season because these stones often move with the water, unlike large stones that take hundreds or thousands of years of erosion to form beautiful shapes like those in the pictures. He said that when the water level drops, they go to find stones and place them in front of their houses for people to buy.
