Mr.Hotsia recommends well-located, affordable, and clean hotels in Lampang. The Colors of Lampang with Uncle Bamboo Fiddle at Asawin Market in the early morning. The typical morning market is quite similar everywhere, featuring soy milk, deep-fried dough sticks, and pork blood soup as the main attractions. These mainstays are seen in markets across provinces. Asawin Market in Lampang is no exception. Asawin Market is considered the center of Lampang, with a morning market, food at noon, and an evening market. All shops are located around Asawin Market.

Including Seri Department Store, a local Lampang mall, which is also located at Asawin Market. At night, it transforms into a small walking street with vendors selling goods, food, and drinks every evening. This is the daily character of Asawin Market. The morning market at Asawin is one I am very impressed with due to the very cheap food prices, such as fried rice at 10 baht per bag, curry rice at 10 to 15 baht per bag, which is hard to find elsewhere in Thailand. My usual main breakfast is pork blood soup.

There are two pork blood soup shops at Asawin Market, both delicious and inexpensive. Another recommendation is to try the rice water drink, located on the right side, selling for only 10 baht, very cheap. Asawin Market is a market I really like because the prices and quality match perfectly. The morning market at Asawin might seem like any other morning market if it weren't for the elderly man playing the bamboo fiddle music in front of the market every morning. Adding music to an ordinary market...

Like my video clip which originally had no music, it was quite dull. But after adding music, it became more colorful and engaging. Asawin Market is the same; when the old man plays the traditional bamboo fiddle in the morning, it brings smiles to the people of Lampang and tourists visiting Asawin Market. Everyone stops to listen, smile, and greet him. This elderly man also has a nearly full-grown black Labrador Retriever dog sleeping in his tricycle. Go see for yourself.

His dog is adorable, listening to the fiddle music. Truly a dog with a musical soul. Uncle Nid plays songs on request. The atmosphere at Asawin Market in the morning is lively. Talking more with Uncle Bamboo Fiddle, I learned he lives past Parkview Condo, towards the Wang River, with about 10 family members. His name is "Uncle Nid." He has difficulty walking and uses a cane. His profession is making bamboo fiddles to sell. Uncle Nid comes to play the bamboo fiddle at Asawin Market in the morning. Donations are welcome.

Or if anyone wants to buy a bamboo fiddle, they can contact him. He has a sign posted clearly. I have been in Lampang for three months as of March 2010. Every time I visit Asawin Market in the morning, I am happy to see Uncle Nid playing the fiddle. But where has he gone recently? I haven't seen him for two weeks. Maybe he is unwell or away on business. Newspaper sellers don't know either. If friends visit the morning market at Asawin and meet Uncle Nid, don't forget to say hello. The colors of Lampang, besides horse carriages, include Uncle Bamboo Fiddle at Asawin Market in the morning, one of my favorite highlights.

This dog is cute but old, resting in front of his usual Seven-Eleven corner shop. Next door is a shop selling delicious pork blood soup. Asawin Market Crispy Pancakes.
