Mr.Hotsia recommends good location, affordable, and clean hotels in Lampang. Kad Kao Jaow is the local market of Lampang people. "To truly understand the locals, you must walk the morning market." This is my personal motto because the morning market is a gathering point for people who come out to buy food daily, to cook or prepare meals, or vendors who buy to resell. What we see by walking through the morning market is the lifestyle of villagers selling their daily goods, whether frogs, fish, or fresh vegetables.
Red ant eggs clearly reflect the living conditions of the community, showing how they live and make a living. Also, walking the morning market and drinking coffee at local coffee shops allows us to talk with villagers, ask about tourist information, discover interesting things, and learn about new news or stories we should know. This is why whenever I travel, I always visit the local market of that city. In Lampang, there are two morning fresh markets.
From what I have seen and visited, the first is the fresh market in the morning at Ratchada Bridge or the Municipal Market. This market is managed and organized by the municipality with clear boundaries for each shop. Mostly, they sell ready-to-eat food by portion. People usually cook rice at home and come to buy side dishes here because the municipal market is conveniently located in the city center. The other market is the traditional morning market or local market of Lampang people. This market focuses less on ready-to-eat food in bags but more on fresh goods like vegetables and fish.
On the street beside the market, genuine villagers sell vegetables and fish they catch. The atmosphere is pleasant for a stroll. I also captured beautiful photos and videos to share with friends. Red ant eggs sold on banana leaves, inside Kad Kao Jaow are permanent stalls selling ready-made food. What caught my attention was the traditional coffee shop selling traditional coffee with soft-boiled eggs. Customers keep coming even though I visited around 8 or 9 AM and the market was still lively. I highly recommend trying the traditional coffee and two soft-boiled eggs.
The soft-boiled eggs here use local bantam chicken eggs from Lampang. The eggs are smaller than regular chicken eggs with a rich yolk, perfect for soft-boiled eggs. Sipping coffee and eating soft-boiled eggs at Sriwilai shop will not disappoint. At Kad Kong Ta, several villagers sell red ant eggs on banana leaves with some ants mixed in to confirm they are red ant eggs. Northern people enjoy eating red ant eggs in curry, soup, or omelets; they are truly delicious. Enjoy walking the market happily, chatting with locals, asking prices, and looking for unusual items you've never seen before.
For tourists, this is an essential activity because true tourism is about learning the culture of each place, each period, and each era. Sometimes, we only analyze through antiques passed down to later generations. See Kad Kao Jaow Lampang on a larger map. Free-range chickens and friendly vendors. This is a video of a local man talking with me at Kad Kao Jaow. The atmosphere of the traditional coffee shop, the old man selling something I can't remember :) This is the route where villagers bring their goods to sell.
