Travel Nakhon Ratchasima, Visit Phimai
http://www.hotsia.com > Travel Nakhon Ratchasima > Visit Phimai Over a hundred years ago, this place was called Phimai town. As a town, it has its own culture and way of life. When I visited Phimai district, besides visiting the Phimai Stone Castle, I also strolled through the market to observe the lifestyle of the Phimai people and tried delicious local dishes like Phimai stir-fried noodles, famous throughout the region. When in the area, you must try the local food. This is an independent travel experience by Mr. Hotsia. Phimai district is about

60 kilometers away. Actually, you don't have to stay here; you can travel back and forth from Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) since it's not far. But for me, I chose to walk around and explore the Phimai Stone Castle, then stroll through the Phimai evening market until almost dark before staying overnight at a nearby hotel. I recommend Phimai Paradise Apartment — clean, with fast WiFi, spacious, and reasonably priced. As I mentioned, don't forget to visit the evening market here. At the evening market, I tried fried sticky rice from Phimai and also found a shop selling Mae Peng spicy salad or female red ants. The ants are quite large. I just learned that the red ants that bite us are males, while the females are called Mae Peng. They are delicious when made into spicy salad. If you don't believe me, try it yourself. Phimai is a quiet town where people speak with their own local accent. I enjoy chatting with the locals to ask about everything, and they respond in the local dialect. It makes me feel like I’m truly experiencing the local culture.
To get to Phimai, if you have a private car, drive to Korat and then continue to Phimai, which is not difficult. If you take public transport, there are direct buses from Bangkok to Phimai departing from Mo Chit bus terminal. However, most people take a bus to Korat first, then transfer to an air-conditioned bus (Por 2) to Phimai because buses to Korat are more frequent, departing every 20 minutes. I recommend this latter method. For the return trip, take a bus back to Korat and then transfer to buses that run frequently to Bangkok. Mr. Hotsia, April 2012.
