Travel Phetchaburi: Lao Song Village, Khao Yoi
Lao Song Village, Khao Yoi http://www.hotsia.com > Travel Phetchaburi > Lao Song Village, Khao Yoi Other trips of mine in Phetchaburi include Spicy Stir-fried Sea Catfish at Puangphet Restaurant, Morning Market and Luang Temple Phetchaburi, Beef Offal Soup at the Night Market, Coastal Road along Ban Laem, Thai Song Dam Village in Khao Yoi, Market in front of Yang Temple Khao Yoi, Breakfast Restaurants in Kaeng Krachan, Khun Usa Homestay in Kaeng Krachan, Tonson Kitchen Kaeng Krachan, and Wiman Nam Kaeng Krachan.

Before coming here, I traveled to visit the Tai people’s village in Sapa, Vietnam, the Thai Dam village in Dien Bien Phu, the Thai Khao village west of Hanoi, and learned that the Thai Dam are called Lao Song by the Thai people. There is also a Lao Song community here in Khao Yoi, Phetchaburi Province. On this trip, I made sure not to miss visiting. Upon arrival, I realized that the lifestyle of the Thai Dam or Lao Song here has changed completely from what I saw in Dien Bien Phu, Vietnam. Traditional clothing is no longer seen.
I was fortunate to have visited and met genuine Thai Dam people in Vietnam before their culture changed significantly. In Khao Yoi, there used to be homestay accommodations similar to the villages in Dakchung, Sekong Province, Laos, where I had traveled before. However, now all ten homestay houses in Khao Yoi have closed and no longer accommodate tourists. Only the Lao Song Cultural Center remains open for visitors to explore.
Mr.Hotsia October 2011 The Thai Song Dam or Lao Song Cultural Center is a cultural center of the Lao Song people. It displays the lifestyle of the Lao Song in the past, including daily life tools and equipment of the Thai Song Dam, replica houses, original script, weaving demonstrations, and souvenir sales such as clothing, bags, and accessories. Every Saturday, there are dance lessons. Accommodation is available in traditional Thai Song Dam style houses.
The Thai Song Dam or Lao Song culture center is open from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. It is located at Village No. 5, Khao Yoi Subdistrict. Travel via Highway No. 4, pass the Khao Yoi district junction, and about 1 kilometer before reaching Phetchaburi town, turn left at the entrance of Ban Wang School. Go about 150 meters to reach the cultural center. Book hotels in Hua Hin and Cha-am in advance for better rates than walk-ins.
