Emerald Triangle The Emerald Triangle is located in Ubon. The Golden Triangle is in Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai Province. The Golden Triangle is the area where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet. The Emerald Triangle, known to Thais as Chong Bok, is the border area of Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. It covers about 12 square kilometers. The part in Thailand is Phu Chong Nayoi National Park, Na Chaluai District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The area in Laos is Champasak Province.
The area in Cambodia is Preah Vihear Province. The land border story dates back to 1985-1987 during the war between Thailand and Vietnam, which controlled Cambodia at that time. Visitors cannot access the Emerald Triangle freely as there is a military checkpoint restricting entry. Unlike the Golden Triangle, which is a commercial and tourist area, the Emerald Triangle is a forest with a small local border market. I only went as far as the military restricted area.
I gave souvenirs to the guards on duty and then returned to Nam Yuen to rest. Mr.Hotsia Thrilling Emerald Triangle Trip (Mr.Hotsia Recommends Hotels in Ubon) 14 25 34.331 N, 105 11 55.907 E GPS Coordinates (POI)
