This market was relocated from the large market by the Mun River to its current location at the northern corner of Thung Si Mueang. Here, there are more food stalls and it is livelier than before. When I lived in Ubon, there were only a few shops including Mit Sumpan meatball shop. Now, it is the busiest spot in Ubon city at night. Speaking of Ubon meatballs, they are somewhat unique compared to other places. Shops selling meatballs in Ubon province usually have standing areas in front of the shop for eating.
Fresh vegetables, chili, and dipping sauces are ready. You can eat as much as you want, but don't eat only part of a meatball and dip it again—that's considered bad manners in Ubon. Locals enjoy sticky rice with papaya salad and grilled chicken. Ubon's papaya salad is famous nationwide for being extremely spicy, even more than 'Sop'. The grilled chicken with dipping sauce is excellent and available day and night. The night market has many such stalls. If you haven't tried them, go and taste them. Since there are so many foods, I chose to try a few stalls.
I chose a large plate of pork satay and a fruit smoothie. The pork satay was very delicious—tender meat and fragrant dipping sauce. The smoothie was too sweet for my taste. There are many other stalls I haven't tried yet. I will try them all and share my experience. mr.hotsia 2010 mr.hotsia eating meatballs in Ubon, Roti at Ubon Night Market http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwyPu-JqrF8 Night Market Fruit Smoothie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIDF75bNgUY
