Exciting Travel Behind the Parade of Shrimp – Where Are They Going? The Parade of Shrimp is a unique natural phenomenon in Thailand. At Lamduan Rapids, Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, the shrimp parade happens around mid-September to late August. The shrimp march because they climb up the rocks to lay eggs above the water. The water current is very strong due to the rapids, so the shrimp climb onto the rocks and crawl upwards. Since there are many shrimp, it forms a beautiful parade. To watch the shrimp parade, arrive at Lamduan Rapids just before dusk.
The shrimp start their march around 7 PM and continue into the late night. On rainy days, even more shrimp parade. If you stay in Ubon city and drive to the site, it takes less than two hours, about an hour or so, as it is only 100 kilometers away. You can watch and return the same day or stay in Nam Yuen town like Mr.Hotsia and then go back. Lamduan Rapids is about 20 minutes from Nam Yuen town. When visiting the shrimp parade, alcohol such as liquor, whiskey, or beer is strictly prohibited.
This rule is strictly enforced to maintain order during the viewing. Bring your own flashlight; the brighter, the better to see clearly. Avoid visiting on holidays as it gets very crowded.
