Exciting Trip to Sao Chaliang and Pha Taem. Mr.Hotsia visited Pha Taem for the first time 20 years ago and returned in 2014. The walkway down to the viewpoint is very well maintained and easy to walk. Pha Taem is a cliff with ancient hand-painted rock art located by the Mekong River, offering a direct view of the river. Visiting Pha Taem requires walking a kilometer on foot. Elderly or those not strong are not recommended to walk down; just enjoy the view from above. Parking is available right at the cliff viewpoint for convenience.
Sao Chaliang is a rare natural stone pillar formation caused by land subsidence. It is located at the entrance to Pha Taem, about 4 kilometers before reaching Pha Taem. Most visitors stop to take photos before continuing to Pha Taem. To catch the sunrise at Pha Taem, most stay overnight in Khong Chiam town and come early in the morning.
