Camping Doi Inthanon: Experience sleeping to the sounds of the forest on Thailand's highest mountain peak

Hello, I'm mr.hotsia. Today, I'll take everyone to experience camping on the summit of Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand, standing at 2,565 meters, nearly twice the height of Phu Kradueng! For those who have only visited Doi Inthanon on a quick trip, arriving in the morning and leaving in the evening, I can tell you that you haven't truly experienced the charm of this place. If you want to know what the real cold, tranquility, and freshness of the forest are like, you must try camping here for a night.

The camping site at Doi Inthanon is located near the park headquarters, which is convenient and safe, with staff on duty 24 hours. There is also a hill tribe village nearby where you can stroll and observe the simple lifestyle of the people living on Doi Inthanon. For those who don't bring their own equipment, tents and bedding are available for rent here, including 3-person tents at 225 baht and large 5-person tents at 300 baht per night. Sleeping bags, mats, and pillows are also available at affordable rental prices, so you don't have to worry about the cold at all.

Speaking of the cold at Doi Inthanon, I, mr.hotsia, have camped listening to the gentle rain amidst freezing temperatures, to the point of needing charcoal to warm up. At night, it's so quiet you can hear your own breathing and the sounds of wildlife around you. This is the true feeling of being close to nature. However, a small warning: open fires are not allowed at the campsite. Therefore, ordering grilled pork pan delivered by the park's shop to enjoy in front of your tent is a warm and satisfying option. The charcoal provided is only three pieces, so if you plan to stay longer, bring your own charcoal.

For traveling to the Doi Inthanon campsite, if you have passedMae Chaema small district behind Doi Inthanon where I often stop and eat at Jaeng Muang restaurant. This place serves authentic Northern Thai dishes like Khao Soi to recharge before heading up the mountain. Doi Inthanon is not far from Mae Chaem, but the mountain road requires a four-wheel drive or careful slow driving due to its winding and steep nature.

I, mr.hotsia, enjoy the different feeling between a day trip to viewpoints or hiking trails and spending a full 24 hours on Doi Inthanon. Watching the sunrise and sunset here, surrounded by mist and cold air, is a rare experience not found in big cities. There are many hiking trails on the mountain to choose from, ranging from easy nature trails to challenging routes that require good preparation.

For those interested in culture and hill tribe lifestyles, Doi Inthanon has hill tribe villages where you can visit, buy handmade textiles and local souvenirs. It's a great opportunity to talk with locals and learn about their traditional way of life, as well as taste authentic local dishes not commonly found in towns.

Chiang Mai itself has many other interesting attractions such asWat Saen Thong, Omkoiwhere I once visited to pay respects to Phra Chao Saen Thong, highly revered by locals, or evenDoi Tao Lakewhere I observed the lake's remnants and closely experienced nature's changes. These places enrich your journey.

For those seeking peace and to recharge their hearts, the Doi Inthanon campsite is the best answer. Just prepare well with a tent, sleeping bag, and an open heart to nature, and you will have a unique experience on Thailand's highest peak. It is cold and quiet here but full of life and deep feelings unlike anywhere else in the world.

Finally, if you want to see the real atmosphere of camping at Doi Inthanon, I, mr.hotsia, recommend watching the video I filmedCamping Doi Inthanonto prepare and imagine the fun you will truly encounter on this mountain.
