Recommended accommodations in Phrao District, Chiang Mai Province by mr.hotsia

When talking about Chiang Mai, many people probably think of the Old City, Walking Streets, or Doi Suthep. But for mr.hotsia, Phrao District is another peaceful corner that I want to recommend you to visit at least once. This place not only offers beautiful nature but also a variety of accommodation styles to suit your preferences. Most importantly, it has a rustic atmosphere that is hard to find in big cities.

Phrao is located not far from Chiang Mai city. It takes about a little over an hour by car from the city center. The route to Phrao is one of my favorites because you pass lush green rice fields and mountains stretching as far as the eye can see, making you feel refreshed from the moment you arrive.

Accommodation Experiences mr.hotsia Does Not Want You to Miss

On my latest trip to Phrao, I chose to stay at a small resort in the middle of a valley, where the owner is a local who personally manages the place. This allowed me to truly experience the local way of life. The rooms here focus on simplicity but are clean and very private. Waking up to cool fresh air, birdsong, and mist drifting past the window, I went out to enjoy a morning coffee feeling fully recharged before heading out for the day.

Another accommodation that impressed me was a homestay run by villagers near Phrao District. Here, you get to experience genuine rural living, try local dishes cooked by local cooks, and if you're lucky, join warm conversations with the villagers. Falling asleep to the sound of wind rustling through trees and crickets chirping at night is an experience hard to find in big cities.

Transportation and Facilities in Phrao District

For those traveling by private car, getting to Phrao is very convenient. The road leading to the district is fully paved. There are enough gas stations, restaurants, and shops along the way. For those without a private vehicle, you can easily take a bus from Chiang Mai city, which takes about 1.5 hours.

In Phrao District itself, there is a fresh market where locals shop daily. I stopped by to browse fresh produce and picked up locally grown vegetables and fruits such as strawberries and seasonal fruits, as well as local dishes like Khao Soi and Hang Lay curry, which have bold flavors that suit my taste.

If you visit Phrao District, don't forget to stop byWat Saen Thong Omkoiwhich is not far away. This temple houses the revered Phra Chao Saen Thong, highly respected by the Omkoi people. It is another place that mr.hotsia invites you to experience the peaceful atmosphere and local community faith.

If you want to extend your Chiang Mai trip with nature and culture, I recommend traveling tothe Doi Tao Lake Remainswhich is an area where the water has receded revealing the old lake remains. It is perfect for nature lovers and photographers. Or if you want to enjoy coffee and Khao Soi as delightfully as I did in Mae Chaem, don't missJaeng Muang Restaurantwhich has a great atmosphere and delicious food.
