Malod Almost All Coconuts Are Gone, Visiting Grandma Ma's Garden and Eating Coconut in Chiang Mai

I, mr.hotsia, had the opportunity to travel to Malod, a small village in Chiang Mai. This time, I didn't come just to enjoy nature, but to learn about the lifestyle and the taste of coconuts from Grandma Ma's garden. Many people may not know this place well, but I assure you that anyone who visits will fall in love with it just like I did.

Driving from Chiang Mai city towards Hod district, passing the route I previously wrote about in the storyThe Ancient Hod Town That Has Reemerged After FloodingandVisiting Saen Thong Amkoi Templewhich is a place I have visited many times. This time, I intended to visit a small village that still preserves the traditional garden lifestyle.

Malod now has almost no coconut trees left because it is harvest season. I arrived at Grandma Ma's garden in the afternoon and felt like stepping back into a peaceful past without the hustle of the big city. Small wooden houses beside neatly trimmed coconut gardens, a cool breeze blowing, coconut leaves fluttering, and birds softly singing made me feel an indescribable relaxation.

Grandma Ma, the kind garden owner, told me, “The coconuts here are a local variety, planted since the time of our grandparents. During harvest season, everyone helps cut fresh coconuts from the trees to make food and sell.” I got to taste fresh coconut water just opened from a new coconut, sweet and fragrant, unlike any I have ever tasted.

Grandma Ma added, “Most coconut trees in Malod are almost gone now because many have been cut and sold. Only the trees that need care for next season's harvest remain.” I took the chance to walk around the garden with her and saw the traditional coconut cutting method used by locals, skillfully climbing the trees. Watching it made me hold my breath.

While I was there, Grandma Ma invited me to eat at her home with a local specialty: “Sticky rice with coconut cream” made from fresh coconut milk from her garden. I must say the taste was incredibly smooth and delicious, especially when eaten with fresh coconut that Grandma Ma opened. It’s a happiness hard to find in big cities.

I also talked with several locals who said Malod is a great place to relax for those wanting to escape the chaos. I agree because besides the lush nature, there is warm and simple friendship that is rare in today’s world.

If you are planning to visit Chiang Mai and want to experience authentic garden village life, I recommend stopping by Malod, this small village, and tasting fresh coconut water at Grandma Ma's house. I believe you will have a unique experience.

Additionally, if you are interested in culture and more attractions in Chiang Mai, I, mr.hotsia, suggest readingVisiting Saen Thong Amkoi Templeto gain deeper understanding of Northern Thai lifestyle, or if you like watery nature, try visitingExploring the Doi Tao Lake Remainswhich is another peaceful natural beauty spot with interesting stories.

Travel and Additional Recommendations

Getting to Malod is not difficult. Take the route from Chiang Mai city through Hod district, then head to this small village. There are clear signs. I recommend driving yourself for convenience and to fully enjoy the scenery along the way.

The best time to visit is late rainy season to early winter when Malod is lush and coconuts begin to yield more fruit. The weather is cool and comfortable, perfect for walking and taking photos.

Finally, if you visit Chiang Mai and want a good restaurant to rest and recharge, I, mr.hotsia, recommendJaeng Muang Restaurantin Mae Chaem. I visit this place often. It serves authentic Northern Thai food with bold flavors, and the atmosphere is perfect for travelers wanting to relax before continuing their journey.

I hope this article helps you see Malod from a different perspective and inspires you to travel there yourself. See you again with mr.hotsia on the next trip.
