Chiang Mai School Break Trip: Mak Kep and P'Gun Drift Driving
Hello, I'm mr.hotsia. I have a story from Chiang Mai during the recent school break to share with you. This trip was not just an ordinary visit but was filled with full-on fun and excitement, especially drifting with P'Gun and Mak Kep who joined the journey.
Chiang Mai is not only known for its nature and culture but also has fun spots that many might not know. I experienced the fresh atmosphere firsthand on this trip, starting with a drive up winding mountain roads surrounded by lush green views and cool air, perfect for drifting. P'Gun skillfully demonstrated his driving expertise, and I was almost breathless watching his precision and speed around the curves.
Mak Kep was a lively and cheerful travel companion. We stopped for lunch at a local restaurant in Chiang Mai city, where the flavors were as bold as ever, especially the chicken khao soi which I highly recommend. If you're interested in the place I usually eat, I have recommended it in an article.Jaeng Muang Restaurantwhich is not far from Chiang Mai city center. It’s a great spot to recharge and plan your route.
After a satisfying meal, we continued to several famous viewpoints in Chiang Mai. I also visitedWat Saen Thong Omkoiwhich is an important site full of fascinating local history. This temple houses Phra Chao Saen Thong, an ancient Buddha image highly revered by the people of Omkoi. I was impressed by the tranquility and intricate beauty of this Buddha statue. Despite being far from the big city, the locals’ faith and the temple’s upkeep remain excellent.
On the day we went drifting, the atmosphere in Chiang Mai was very fresh with cool, gentle breezes that made us feel completely relaxed. The route P'Gun drifted on was a winding mountain road with ups and downs, making the drive both challenging and fun. I captured many photos and videos. Besides the excitement of drifting, Chiang Mai has many other interesting attractions. During my trip, I also visited the dried-up remains of Doi Tao Lake, where the water had receded revealing a vast land area. It was a unique feeling since we usually see the lake full of water. For those who love adventure and nature, I recommend reading my articleExploring the Remains of Doi Tao Lakewhich details the atmosphere and lifestyle of the local people there.
On the way back to Chiang Mai city, I stopped to photograph and experience the lifestyle of locals collecting floating teak wood along the Ping River at Ban Tawai. This scene impressed me with the locals’ endurance and skill as they live closely connected to nature. Some beautiful and valuable logs require villagers to wear life jackets and dive into the strong currents to retrieve them. I have written about this in the articleTeak Hunters of the Ping Riverin case anyone is interested in this story.
When talking about Chiang Mai, I can’t forget the delicious food. There’s a Korean buffet restaurant popular with kids who enjoy the play area at Central Festival, and the roasted duck restaurant I recommend inHia S. Roasted Duck, Chiang Mainear the airport. If you want to try authentic khao soi or street snacks at the walking street, they are easy to find and reasonably priced.
This trip made me realize that Chiang Mai’s charm is not just its nature or temples but the variety of activities and the lifestyle of its people. From the fun drifting on mountain roads, the warmth of locals preserving their culture, to the delicious food that makes you want to return again and again.
If you’re planning a trip to Chiang Mai during the school break, I, mr.hotsia, recommend opening your heart to experiences like this. It’s not just about sightseeing nature or temples but living like a local with friends and family. I promise you’ll have new stories to share.
