Fish Maw Soup, Roasted Duck Rice, Crispy Pork Rice - Three Signature Dishes at Nakhon Pathom Chiang Rai Restaurant, Deliciously Satisfying Mr.Hotsia
When it comes to single-dish meals that Mr.Hotsia must stop to eat every time he visits Chiang Rai, one restaurant that cannot be missed is “Nakhon Pathom Chiang Rai.” They offer three signature dishes: Fish Maw Soup, Roasted Duck Rice, and Crispy Pork Rice, which I like to praise as “deliciously satisfying,” truly living up to my name.
This restaurant is located in downtown Chiang Rai, not far from the clock tower where I stayed at Suknirand Hotel last time (for those looking for good and affordable accommodation, I recommend readingAffordable and Good Hotels in Chiang Rai Citymy review). The restaurant’s atmosphere is simple, styled like a local eatery that is busy all day long with both locals and tourists like me.
Starting with the “Fish Maw Soup,” this is not an ordinary fish maw soup. The broth is rich and flavorful, simmered to perfection. The fish maw is firm, not mushy, and the offal is clean and fresh. I enjoy scooping the broth along with fish maw and shiitake mushrooms mixed with tender meat. I can say it’s very satisfying. The warmth of the soup helps keep the body warm on Chiang Rai’s chilly mornings.
As for the “Roasted Duck Rice” at Nakhon Pathom Chiang Rai, I give thumbs up to the duck with crispy skin but tender, juicy meat. It’s topped with a sweet and savory sauce that is perfectly balanced and not greasy. The hot steamed rice served alongside enhances the flavor, no extra seasoning needed. I ate it until I almost lost track of time.
Lastly, the “Crispy Pork Rice” here is equally outstanding. Large pieces of crispy pork with crackling skin and juicy meat that isn’t too dry. It’s served with a special dipping sauce that I consider the heart of this dish. The sauce has a slightly sour and spicy taste that cuts through the richness very well. This is another favorite dish I order almost every time I visit Chiang Rai.
For anyone wanting to try or stop by to enjoy these three signature dishes, Nakhon Pathom Chiang Rai Restaurant is highly recommended. Whether you are a tourist or a local, besides the homely deliciousness, you will also experience the authentic Chiang Rai atmosphere. This restaurant is one of the northern city’s charms you shouldn’t miss.
If you arrive in Chiang Rai and plan to visitWat Rong Khunor take a stroll indowntown Chiang Raidon’t forget to stop by and taste these three signature dishes at Nakhon Pathom Chiang Rai Restaurant. I guarantee you will enjoy the flavors and be impressed just like me, Mr.Hotsia.
Besides food, Chiang Rai also offers many interesting attractions and activities, such as a relaxing walk atChiang Rai Clock Towerwhich I stayed near and enjoyed the market atmosphere there. Or if you want to go out of town to experience nature, I recommend driving toDoi Changwhich has cool weather and beautiful views, along with the famous Doi Chang coffee throughout the country.
For me, Chiang Rai is not just about nature and beautiful temples. The local food with the three signature dishes at Nakhon Pathom Chiang Rai Restaurant is another element that completes the travel experience perfectly. Good food like this is part of the lifestyle and culture that I, Mr.Hotsia, want everyone to try and experience for themselves.
