Just 30 minutes from Chiang Rai city, you can experience this way of life. Anyone can come and experience it: the Akha people at Apha Homestay

When talking about Chiang Rai, many people probably think of the beautiful Wat Rong Khun or the clock tower with its impressive light and sound show in the city center. But for mr.hotsia, stepping just 30 minutes outside Chiang Rai city to experience the lifestyle of the Akha hill tribe is a charming and warm experience that is hard to find elsewhere.

This is “Apha Homestay,” a small village not far from Chiang Rai city. The route is simple and surrounded by lush nature all along the way. It’s perfect for those who want a relaxed drive, not far or tiring, and want to truly experience the Akha way of life.

mr.hotsia started the journey from Chiang Rai city after a comfortable stay at an affordable hotel likeSuknirand Hotellocated near the Chiang Rai clock tower. Just across the street is the morning market and the famous Yellow Truck Coffee shop where everyone stops for good coffee before setting off. Then drive out of town towards Doi Chang. After about 20 kilometers, you’ll reach the turnoff to the Akha village.

The atmosphere along the way is filled with coffee plantations and cornfields carefully tended by locals. The sound of birds and the breeze through the treetops refresh you as if entering a world different from the city’s hustle. Upon arriving at Apha village, you will be warmly welcomed by the Akha people here.

Apha Homestay is not just accommodation but also a cultural center for the Akha people, offering tourists the chance to learn about traditional agriculture and folk arts passed down through generations. I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to sit and eat with a local family, enjoying local dishes made from fresh ingredients from their garden, such as organic vegetables, fresh duck eggs, and a special spicy chili paste. It was delicious and educational at the same time.

Besides food, the Akha people have interesting handicrafts, such as handwoven fabrics with beautiful patterns that tell the tribe’s stories. I tried weaving with the locals, which was a valuable experience that made me feel closer to the tribal culture.

If you love photography, Apha Homestay offers many beautiful spots to capture, including old wooden houses among large trees, green rice fields, and simple yet charming daily life scenes. mr.hotsia recommends bringing your camera and an open heart to experience the genuine warmth of the people here.

When returning to Chiang Rai city, don’t forget to stop bySaturday Walking Street “Kad Chiang Rai Ramleuk”which is not far from your accommodation. This market is a meeting point for tourists and locals selling local products, traditional food, and various handicrafts. Food lovers must not miss the famous spots like Roy Han, known for its stewed beef basil, or try the duck noodles at P. Duck Noodle, San Khi Bao, which are so delicious they’re worth recommending.

Chiang Rai is not only about famous tourist spots but also about lifestyles and cultures waiting to be truly experienced. mr.hotsia believes that learning about the Akha way of life at Apha Homestay will make your trip to Chiang Rai more meaningful and memorable.

If you have more time, try driving up to nearby Doi Chang (Drive to Doi Chang) to see coffee plantations and enjoy the cool fresh air, or visit the beautiful and unique Wat Rong Khun in Chiang Rai.Wat Rong Khunis one of mr.hotsia’s favorite places because it is both art and a profound spiritual message.

For those who want convenient and affordable accommodation in the city, I recommendSuknirand Hotelwhere I have stayed before. It’s just a few steps from the Chiang Rai clock tower (Chiang Rai Clock Tower) and the morning-evening markets, as well as the Saturday Walking Street. This is a great base for exploring the city and experiencing the lifestyles of various hill tribes around the outskirts.

For anyone wanting to truly see the Akha way of life at Apha Homestay without traveling far or hardship, mr.hotsia guarantees this experience will enrich your feelings and memories of your trip to Chiang Rai.
