Doi Mae Salong Coffee: Enjoy Coffee with Beautiful Views at Doi Mae Salong

When it comes to mountain coffee in Thailand, Doi Mae Salong in Chiang Rai province is definitely one of the destinations that I, mr.hotsia, never miss whenever I have the chance to visit Chiang Rai. This time, I drove up to experience the atmosphere of freshly grown coffee at nearly two thousand meters above sea level. Sipping aromatic coffee while enjoying the complex mountain views at Doi Mae Salong is a unique experience and definitely worth the trip.

The route from Chiang Rai city up to Doi Mae Salong is not easy, but not too difficult either. Especially if you have driven to Doi Chang before,Doi Changyou will know that the route here is challenging and beautiful in its own way. I started early in the morning from Chiang Rai city, driving along winding mountain roads until reaching the Yunnan Chinese village, which is the main community of Doi Mae Salong. Here, history and Chinese culture blend harmoniously with the hill tribe way of life.

The coffee shop I stopped at this time is calledMy Placewhich is located just before the 7-Eleven on the right side. This spot is an excellent viewpoint, overlooking layered mountain ranges with light mist floating around, making the coffee taste even more special. The coffee at Doi Mae Salong here is grown organically without chemicals, with a fragrant aroma and rich flavor. I ordered a hot latte and sat enjoying the view. I must say, the feeling was so chill and refreshing that I didn’t want to leave.

Besides coffee, the surrounding atmosphere is filled with local food stalls and souvenir shops selling tea, coffee, and pesticide-free fruits and vegetables from local villagers. Here, I tried Yunnan-style pork leg at a nearby restaurant. The flavor was smooth and unlike anything I’ve had in the city, and the price was very reasonable. It’s perfect for those who want to experience culture, food, and natural scenery all in one place.

For those who have never been to Chiang Rai, I recommend spending a night or two in Chiang Rai city before or after visiting Doi Mae Salong because the city offers affordable and good hotels such asSuknirand Hotelwhere I stayed near the Chiang Rai Clock Tower. It’s convenient for travel and close to the market and the very interesting walking street. If you come to Chiang Rai on a Saturday, don’t miss walking atKad Chiang Rai Ram Lueka night walking street full of food and local products.

If you like photography, I recommend continuing to Wat Rong Khun, the White Temple of Chiang Rai,which is an important landmark and popular among tourists worldwide for its unique and stunning design.

Back to Doi Mae Salong, seeing the locals hand-planting coffee and carefully tending the coffee gardens made me feel more connected to their way of life. Coffee here is not just a drink but part of the culture and pride of this community. I, mr.hotsia, enjoyed walking through the coffee gardens and watching the roasting process at a small shop before serving customers. It felt like being part of the coffee production process, not just a customer receiving a finished product.

For travelers wanting to experience this atmosphere, I recommend preparing clothes suitable for the cooler mountain weather, especially in the morning and evening when it can be quite cold. Comfortable shoes are also necessary for exploring the coffee gardens and village roads, which can be a bit rough.

For those who truly love Doi Mae Salong coffee, I recommend buying fresh coffee beans to take home to enjoy the authentic taste of Doi Mae Salong. And if you have the chance, don’t forget to visit the beautiful viewpoint at My Place coffee shop that I mentioned. The atmosphere is truly wonderful.

Finally, visiting Doi Mae Salong is not just about drinking coffee but about spending slow moments with nature and the people here, learning a simple and warm way of life that I, mr.hotsia, believe is a charm you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
