Saharos Pork Blood Soup, Chiang Rai City - A must-try breakfast

When talking about popular breakfast dishes in Chiang Rai, one menu I, mr.hotsia, strongly recommend is “Pork Blood Soup.” There are many delicious places in Chiang Rai to try this dish, but for me, Saharos, located near the Chiang Rai Clock Tower, is a charming spot with a unique and unmatched flavor.

Saharos opens early around 6:30 AM. If you stay in downtown Chiang Rai, such as at Suknirand Hotel where I have stayed before (read more atAffordable and Good Hotels in Chiang Rai), you can easily walk there since the restaurant is right next to the Chiang Rai Clock Tower. The clock tower is famous and beautifully designed by Ajarn Chalermchai Kositpipat (read the story of the clock tower atChiang Rai Clock Tower), making the morning atmosphere here more special than elsewhere.

Saharos Pork Blood Soup differs from Jing Ju Chai’s near the new bus terminal in that the pork and offal are carefully prepared with a smooth taste. The broth is rich and fragrant with spices and herbs that have been well simmered. The tender pork pieces and pork blood are soft, not chewy. Fresh jing ju chai is served to add freshness and cut the richness. There are also side condiments like fried garlic and chili vinegar that enhance the balanced flavor.

I, mr.hotsia, have tried both places. Although Saharos doesn’t have as soft pork balls as Jing Ju Chai, it has its charm in the richness of the broth and convenience of location since it’s in downtown Chiang Rai. You don’t need to drive out of town or hassle with taxis.

In the morning around Saharos, there is also the Yellow Car Coffee shop, a popular check-in spot for tourists and locals. This coffee shop offers a warm, homely feeling, perfect for sipping hot coffee before or after a breakfast of pork blood soup.Yellow Car Coffee, Clock Tower, Chiang Rai CityThis is a choice I, mr.hotsia, recommend you try.

Morning atmosphere in downtown Chiang Rai with markets and local life

After enjoying pork blood soup at Saharos, I, mr.hotsia, often spend time walking around downtown Chiang Rai. The area around the clock tower is a center for commerce and morning activities. The morning market has fresh produce, local snacks, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and a variety of foods to choose from.

If you’re lucky to visit on a Saturday or Sunday, you can also stop by the walking street market held in downtown Chiang Rai. I have written about it in the articleStrolling Around Downtown Chiang Raiwhere it’s not just about goods and food but also a stage for the cultural and historical diversity of Chiang Rai people.

Chiang Rai is a city full of stories and the vibrant lifestyle of northern people. I, mr.hotsia, enjoy walking through the morning market and tasting local food in a relaxed atmosphere, like truly experiencing the real life of Chiang Rai locals.

Connecting Chiang Rai travel with Saharos Pork Blood Soup restaurant

If you come to Chiang Rai and want convenient accommodation near attractions and delicious restaurants, Saharos is a great choice. Besides being close to the clock tower, a major city landmark, it’s also near the morning market and many coffee shops to chill at.

And if you want to change the scenery by visiting beautiful temples likeWat Rong Khunor drive up to Doi Chang, famous for its coffee and beautiful views, I recommend planning to stay in Chiang Rai city first, then continue your journey. This way, you’ll have the chance to enjoy this delicious breakfast again.

In summary, Saharos Pork Blood Soup at the Chiang Rai Clock Tower is more than just a breakfast spot. It’s one of the travel experiences I, mr.hotsia, want everyone to try because it reflects the simple northern city life filled with authentic local charm.
