Enjoy homemade beef curry and exciting Chiang Khong travel with mr.hotsia
Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai Province, is a small riverside town along the Mekong that is not widely talked about. But for me, mr.hotsia, this is another perspective full of charm from local home-style food, riverside way of life, and a simple yet profound atmosphere that makes me want to invite everyone to experience it.
My journey started from Chiang Rai city after a comfortable stay atSuknirand Hotelnear the Chiang Rai Clock Tower. This affordable hotel is my favorite because of its great location. It's very convenient to walk to the morning market, evening market, or the Saturday walking street “Kad Chiang Rai Ram Luek.” From here, I drove north towards Chiang Khong, about 140 kilometers away, taking around 3 hours. The route passes through vast rice fields and intricate mountains, a view that made me forget all fatigue.
Chiang Khong Homemade Beef Curry: A Must-Try Rich Flavor
Arriving in Chiang Khong, what mr.hotsia must not miss is tasting the original homemade beef curry recipe found in fresh markets and local eateries. I stopped by a small roadside restaurant known among locals. The place isn’t fancy, but the aroma of spices wafting from afar made my mouth water.
The beef curry here is different from what I've had before. The beef is braised until tender, blended with a unique local curry paste scented with galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and native spices that enhance the flavor. The curry is rich and well-balanced, not overly spicy, perfect to eat with hot steamed rice or sticky rice favored by Chiang Rai people.
I remember sitting there eating the beef curry while listening to the friendly chatter of people in the fresh market. This kind of atmosphere made me realize that food is not just about taste but a true connection to local life and culture.
Riverside Life and Chiang Khong Fresh Market
Chiang Khong fresh market is a place I highly recommend for everyone to stroll and closely observe the local way of life. There are stalls selling fresh produce, vegetables, fruits, and various local foods, including the beef curry we enjoyed in the morning. The market isn’t large but is filled with warmth and sincerity from the vendors.
Another special feature of Chiang Khong is its proximity to the Mekong River. I took a walk along the riverbank in the evening as the sun was setting. The peaceful atmosphere with small fishing boats passing by made me feel the simple and calm life that is hard to find in big cities.
Seamless Connection Between Chiang Khong and Chiang Rai
After recharging with homemade beef curry and exploring the market, I recommend visiting important attractions in Chiang Rai city nearby, such asWat Rong Khunthe beautiful white temple popular among tourists worldwide, or take an evening stroll atChiang Rai Walking Streetto fully experience the Northern city vibe.
For those who enjoy nightlife, I suggest watching the light and sound show atChiang Rai Clock Towerwhich has a nightly performance. It’s an impression I will never forget.
Chiang Khong Food and Travel Trip, Exciting Like mr.hotsia
I often say food is the gateway to understanding culture, and eating homemade beef curry in Chiang Khong was an experience that fulfilled my feelings best. Chiang Khong is not just a destination but a journey that allowed me to experience authentic Northern lifestyle. Imagine waking up early, tasting hot beef curry, listening to the Mekong River flowing, then heading back to Chiang Rai city to visit Wat Rong Khun or the walking street. It’s truly perfect and satisfying.
If anyone wants to try authentic Northern food, I recommend planning a trip to Chiang Khong along with Chiang Rai city to fully enjoy food, travel, and cultural experiences.
