Phatang's view is so beautiful it takes your breath away. The kids were so tired they had to give up; Nong Kaem went down first

When talking about beautiful viewpoints in Chiang Rai province, one place that mr.hotsia must recommend is “Phatang” — a high mountain not far from Chiang Rai city. But the charm here makes you forget all fatigue the moment you stand on the cliff top.

On this climb up Phatang mountain, mr.hotsia brought the kids along, ranging from older children to little Nong Kaem. The trail up Phatang isn’t as easy as walking in a park; it requires considerable strength and determination. Some kids started to lose energy, and Nong Kaem was one of them, unable to continue and had to go down halfway.

What impressed mr.hotsia throughout the journey was the changing atmosphere and views as we climbed higher. The air was cool and comfortable with a constant breeze. Most importantly, the open view showed layers of mountains with green forests contrasting against the blue sky. It was truly stunning.

After Nong Kaem went down, the remaining kids continued to the summit of Phatang. Here, mr.hotsia recommends preparing comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes, and don’t forget to bring water and snacks because the trail is quite steep and takes some time.

The trail and surroundings around Phatang

Phatang is located in Mae Fa Luang district, Chiang Rai province. The hiking trail varies; some parts are dirt roads, others have tree roots and rocks to watch out for. mr.hotsia suggests going in the morning or late afternoon when the sun isn’t too strong and the weather is still cool.

Along the way, you will see the lifestyle of local hill tribes who still quietly preserve their traditional culture. Houses are scattered along the path, and if you’re lucky, you might see tribes such as the Hmong or Karen. The kids who come along also get to learn about culture and ethnic diversity.

Connecting travel and accommodation in Chiang Rai

After the tiring climb up Phatang, relaxing back in Chiang Rai city is highly recommended by mr.hotsia. The hotel I chose to stay at isSuknirand Hotelwhich is located not far from the Chiang Rai Clock Tower. It has a good location, convenient transportation, and reasonable prices. It’s suitable for travelers who want to rest after mountain climbing or hiking trips.

If you still have time in the city, Chiang Rai offers interesting attractions such asWat Rong Khunwhich is beautiful and uniquely artistic, or you can stroll alongthe Walking Streetfull of local food and handicrafts. mr.hotsia often stops by the Yellow Bus Coffee shop near the Clock Tower to recharge and experience the authentic Chiang Rai city atmosphere.

Memories and advice from mr.hotsia

This trip to Phatang was not just about beautiful views or hiking but an experience that showed mr.hotsia the determination and effort of the kids climbing up. Even though some got discouraged halfway, they were happy to try and connect closely with nature.

If you plan to bring your family or kids here, it’s recommended to prepare well physically and with the right gear. Also, closely watch over the little ones because the trail is quite challenging. Don’t forget to capture beautiful memories to take home.

Phatang, from mr.hotsia’s perspective, is a destination that completes the travel memories in Chiang Rai perfectly — whether it’s natural views, hill tribe lifestyles, or the warmth of family traveling together.
