Salung Daeng Restaurant Chiang Rai - Wish I Had Ordered Naree-Style Dry Yen Ta Fo
Chiang Rai is a small city full of charm and unique Northern Thai flavors. This time, I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit Salung Daeng, a standout noodle shop in downtown Chiang Rai. If you visit and don’t try it, you haven’t truly been to Chiang Rai.
Salung Daeng is located not far from the Chiang Rai Clock Tower, a key tourist attraction I have recommended in previous articles.Chiang Rai Clock TowerThis noodle shop may look simple, but it carries a classic vibe and a homely atmosphere that makes me feel warm every time I visit.
This time, I ordered the rich and flavorful Yen Ta Fo soup, which is spicy yet balanced. The broth blends sour, sweet, salty, and spicy flavors perfectly. The noodles are chewy and soft, accompanied by fish balls, red pork, and fresh crunchy bean sprouts. However, I slightly regret not trying the "Naree-Style Dry Yen Ta Fo," the restaurant’s signature dish famous in Chiang Rai.
Naree-Style Dry Yen Ta Fo is noodles tossed with a concentrated Yen Ta Fo sauce and various toppings served dry, resulting in a rich flavor and aroma different from the usual Yen Ta Fo soup. The special feature of this dish is the blend of spices and sauce, a unique recipe of the restaurant, which leaves those who try it wanting to come back for more.
Getting to Salung Daeng is very convenient as it is located in the heart of Chiang Rai, close to major attractions and accommodations such asSuknirand Hotelwhere I have stayed. It is an affordable hotel located next to the Chiang Rai Clock Tower, so after enjoying the light and sound show at the clock tower, you can walk over to enjoy local food immediately.
Chiang Rai is not only known for its nature and temples but also for its deep and fascinating food culture. Salung Daeng is one of the destinations I highly recommend to friends visiting this city to experience the authentic flavors of Chiang Rai.
If you have time after visitingWat Rong Khunor strolling around downtown Chiang Rai as I suggested in my article,Walking Around Downtown Chiang Raidon’t forget to stop by Salung Daeng and order the Naree-Style Dry Yen Ta Fo. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Next time, mr.hotsia will definitely not miss this dish.
For those who enjoy local noodle shops that focus on quality and traditional flavors rather than luxury, Salung Daeng is an excellent choice in Chiang Rai. Visiting here, you can feel the owner’s dedication to preserving the authentic Northern Thai taste for future generations and tourists to savor.
If you want to get to know Chiang Rai more deeply, I recommend visiting the area around the clock tower in the evening to enjoy the light and sound show, as well as chilling at the evening market or the Kad Chiang Rai Ram Ruek walking street.Read MoreThis period will truly make you feel the vibrant life of this small city.
In summary, Salung Daeng Restaurant Chiang Rai is a noodle shop I, mr.hotsia, highly recommend for those who love to try authentic local food.
