Grandpa's Garden Never Gets Boring @ Doi Pha Hee, Chiang Rai

If you ask me, mr.hotsia, where in Chiang Rai I want to return to many times without getting bored, I must say it’s “Grandpa's Garden” at Doi Pha Hee. This place is like an oasis for nature lovers and a chic travel spot in Chiang Rai that many may not know well yet. But for me, having experienced the atmosphere many times, I always feel there is something new to discover every visit.

Doi Pha Hee is located in Mueang Chiang Rai District, not far from the city center. It takes about 30-40 minutes to drive up the mountain. The road is not too difficult; it’s a newly improved gravel road that makes driving much easier. The scenery along the way is full of mountain ranges and light mist floating among the treetops. During the rainy or winter season, it’s incredibly refreshing with cool weather that makes you want to stop time.

Grandpa's Garden at Doi Pha Hee is not an ordinary garden. It combines cold-climate plant cultivation with areas designed for tourists to experience the lifestyles of various hill tribes. There are many beautiful photo spots, including flower fields, bamboo forests, and small cottage-style accommodations that make you feel like you’ve stepped into another world.

On my latest visit, I tried coffee from a local farmer’s plantation. The beans are truly high quality, with a rich and fragrant flavor comparable to Doi Chang coffee. There is also a small restaurant in Grandpa's Garden famous for local savory and sweet dishes you shouldn’t miss, such as Hang Lay curry, Sai Ua sausage, and freshly made mango sticky rice every day.

If you come to Chiang Rai and stay in the city center, I recommend trying to stay atSuknirand Hotelwhere I stayed near the Chiang Rai Clock Tower. It’s convenient for food, travel to major attractions, and the trip up to Doi Pha Hee is not too far.

Besides Grandpa's Garden, Doi Pha Hee is also a great starting point for visiting other places in Chiang Rai, such as the famous Wat Rong Khun or driving to Doi Chang to enjoy mountain scenery and fresh coffee. For those who love tranquility and want to escape city chaos, Grandpa's Garden and Doi Pha Hee are the perfect answer.

On good weather days, I often stroll around the garden, photograph the mountain views changing colors with the sunlight, and chat with locals. They share stories about the garden’s history and a simple yet happy way of life. This is what makes me want to keep coming back here, no matter how many times.

For those planning a trip to Chiang Rai, I recommend a deep travel itinerary starting with exploring Chiang Rai city bywalking around the city centerto experience local culture and markets, then driving up to Doi Pha Hee to breathe fresh air and fully enjoy nature before heading back to the city to taste local coffee or food again.
