Moo Kata @ Doi Pha Hee, Chiang Rai: Enjoy the breeze and the view of the high mountain with extraordinary flavors

When talking about Chiang Rai, many people probably think of the beautiful Wat Rong Khun or the clock tower with its striking light and sound show. But for me, mr.hotsia, another charm that makes Chiang Rai captivating is “Moo Kata on the mountain,” especially atDoi Pha Heewhich not only offers beautiful natural scenery but also a Moo Kata flavor that you have to share after tasting.

I had the chance to experience Doi Pha Hee on a cool, pleasant day at the end of the rainy season and beginning of winter. The route from Chiang Rai city takes about an hour and some minutes, with winding mountain roads. But the feeling when seeing the complex mountain views and light mist floating with the cool air made the journey not tiring at all.

At Doi Pha Hee, there are not only great views but also several small Moo Kata restaurants serving visitors delicious food in a mountain atmosphere. I chose to sit at one where the owner is a kind local. They use fresh ingredients, especially pork marinated with the restaurant’s special spice recipe, along with fresh vegetables from the surrounding mountains. Importantly, the charcoal stove provides consistent heat, making the Moo Kata perfectly hot without burning easily.

While grilling pork and vegetables, I looked around and saw many tourists, both Thai and foreign, enjoying Moo Kata. Some held cameras capturing the mist floating above the treetops, others chatted happily. This feeling is the charm of eating Moo Kata on the mountain at Doi Pha Hee — experiencing warmth from both the food and the atmosphere.

Another highlight I really liked was the “dipping sauce” made by the restaurant. It’s not too sweet, slightly sour, and moderately spicy. Eating it with grilled pork helps cut the greasiness very well. It’s a recipe that if I return to Doi Pha Hee, I will definitely stop by to eat again.
