Served on a hot stone, Korean bibimbap with Panaree and Nong Kaem enjoying Korean food in Chiang Rai

When it comes to Korean food in Chiang Rai, many might think of restaurants decorated in authentic Korean style. But for mr.hotsia, having Korean bibimbap served on a hot stone in the relaxed atmosphere of a small town like Panaree is a far more memorable experience than many big-city restaurants I've visited.

I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to travel to Chiang Rai while planning to explore the city and nearby communities. On the way from the city to Pan District, I stopped at a small Korean restaurant called Koreana Restaurant, located not far from the main route. It’s clear the owner is dedicated to authentic Korean cuisine.

What impressed me most about this restaurant is the hot stone serving method, especially for bibimbap. The heat from the stone combined with fresh ingredients—colorful vegetables and marinated pork in Korean sauce—creates a rich flavor and aroma distinctly different from anywhere else I've eaten.

The atmosphere is simple yet friendly, exactly the kind I like because it lets you experience the local lifestyle in Panaree. It’s not just about eating; I also got to chat with Nong Kaem and Panaree, who help run the restaurant. It felt like making two new friends on this trip.

For those who have visited Chiang Rai and want to stay in the city before exploring nearby communities, I highly recommend checking outAffordable and Good Hotels in Chiang Rai Citysuch as Suknirand Hotel, located next to the Chiang Rai Clock Tower. It’s very convenient for morning and evening market strolls or enjoying the light and sound show at the clock tower at night.

After enjoying bibimbap, I also took a little time to explore Chiang Rai city. Walking along the Saturday Night Walking Street called “Kad Chiang Rai Ram Luek” is one of my favorite activities. Besides tasting local food, you can see art and culture that truly reflect Chiang Rai’s way of life. For more details, you can read atStrolling in Chiang Rai City

For nature lovers wanting a change of scenery from the city, I also recommend driving to Doi Chang, a famous coffee-growing area in Chiang Rai. Along the way, there are Akha hill tribe villages and Risu communities where I experienced a simple and warm lifestyle. Read the full story atDriving Trip to Doi Changwhich will complete your Chiang Rai trip perfectly.

Back to the Korean food in Panaree, I want to emphasize that the charm of this restaurant lies in its freshness and unique serving style. The hot stone used to serve the food creates a fragrant aroma and a slight crispiness of the rice at the bottom when eaten with vegetables and bibimbap sauce, making the flavor richer and deeper than what I’ve had in Bangkok or elsewhere.

If you enjoy this kind of Korean food, don’t forget to try other dishes at the restaurant, such as hot kimchi soup or well-marinated Korean grilled pork served with a variety of side dishes that fill the table. I guarantee the deliciousness and dining experience will stay with you for a long time.

For anyone planning a trip to Chiang Rai, I, mr.hotsia, recommend spending a night or two in Chiang Rai city before exploring surrounding communities like Panaree. This kind of travel and dining lets you see the true life of Chiang Rai people, which is not only about famous tourist spots like Wat Rong Khun or the Clock Tower but also the warmth and sincerity of local life waiting for you to fully experience.

Chiang Rai is not just a city of temples and nature but also a place where diverse culinary cultures blend perfectly. The Korean restaurant in Panaree that I tried is one of the clearest examples of this diversity.
