Unseen Chiang Khong 13/13: Chiang Khong Run 2019 Launching the Exciting Travel Home Hotsia Home stay Ban Pak Ing Chiang Khong
Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai Province, is another destination I, mr.hotsia, would like to recommend for those who want to truly experience the riverside lifestyle along the Mekong. Not just passing through, but getting to know a small town with the charm of Northern people mixed with the true spirit of the Mekong River. In 2019, I had the opportunity to join the “Chiang Khong Run 2019,” an impressive running event surrounded by nature and local culture. This time, we also launched a new accommodation calledHotsia Home stay Ban Pak IngLocated on the banks of the Mekong River in Chiang Khong district, this homestay perfectly blends comfort with the traditional wooden house atmosphere.
Previously, many might know Chiang Rai as the provincial capital famous for the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun).Wat Rong Khun, the White Temple of Chiang RaiOr the Chiang Rai Clock Tower with its beautiful light and sound show.Chiang Rai Clock TowerBut Chiang Khong is quieter and more natural, ideal for those who want to relax slowly and truly experience the riverside local lifestyle.
Atmosphere of the “Chiang Khong Run 2019” event
The 2019 Chiang Khong Run was not only a race through beautiful natural scenery along the Mekong but also showed a community working together impressively. Locals warmly welcomed runners and tourists with smiles and kindness. Running through rice fields and Ban Pak Ing community reminded me of the simplicity many city dwellers may have forgotten. Beyond the physical challenge, there was joy in truly experiencing local life.
Hotsia Home stay Ban Pak Ing Chiang Khong
I, mr.hotsia, am proud to launch this accommodation designed to fully harmonize with Chiang Khong’s environment and culture. Ban Pak Ing is a wooden homestay located on the Mekong Riverbank, offering clear views of the river and mountains on both sides. It’s perfect for those wanting to escape city chaos and immerse themselves in local atmosphere.
The house is made from old wood combined with modern upgrades for full comfort, such as clean bathrooms, comfortable beds, and a sitting area to enjoy the cool breeze from the Mekong. I especially enjoy sipping coffee on the balcony in the morning, watching villagers go to work in the fields and along the river. This is the true happiness of visiting Chiang Khong.
Riverside Lifestyle at Ban Pak Ing
Another highlight I experienced at Ban Pak Ing is the traditional lifestyle of the locals. Most people here farm, garden, and fish from the Mekong River. It’s a rare sight nowadays. Morning to late morning walks around the village reveal roadside vendors selling fresh vegetables, fruits, and delicious local food.
If you want to try authentic local dishes, I recommend visiting the morning market in Chiang Khong town, not far from Ban Pak Ing. There you’ll find a variety of Northern and riverside foods such as Khao Soi, Nam Ngiao, and sticky rice snacks that are hard to find in big cities.
Travel and Accommodation in Chiang Khong
Chiang Khong is located next to the Laos border. Traveling here is easy if you have a private car, or you can take a bus from Chiang Rai city conveniently. I, mr.hotsia, have recommended several affordable accommodations in Chiang Rai cityAffordable and Good Hotels in Chiang Rai Citywhich can serve as a starting point before heading to Chiang Khong.
If you have more than one day, I suggest exploring Chiang Rai city first, such as strolling alongSaturday Walking Street “Kad Chiang Rai Ram Luek”or visiting the beautiful Wat Rong Khun, then driving north to Chiang Khong to experience the distinct peace and nature.
Other Must-Do Activities in Chiang Khong
Besides the run and relaxing at Ban Pak Ing, Chiang Khong offers many natural and cultural attractions to explore, such as boat trips to see riverside lifestyles or visiting nearby ethnic villages.
If you like coffee, I, mr.hotsia, recommend trying the unique local coffee, which differs from the Chiang Rai city coffee I’ve introduced before, such as the Yellow Truck Coffee atChiang Rai Clock TowerBut in Chiang Khong, you’ll experience the aroma of coffee from small natural farms along the Mekong.
Summary of Experience from mr.hotsia
This visit to Chiang Khong for me, mr.hotsia, was a journey fulfilling both body and soul. I experienced a simple yet profound lifestyle, participated in a meaningful run, and rested in a wooden riverside house at Hotsia Home stay Ban Pak Ing, which I designed for travelers who love deep travel experiences.
If you’re looking for a peaceful destination to escape the rush and want to experience the true Northern riverside lifestyle, Chiang Khong and Ban Pak Ing are choices you should not overlook.
