Buriram Province: The Land of Stone Castles and Authentic Isan Lifestyle with mr.hotsia
When talking about Buriram Province, many people might think of the famous politician Mr. Newin Chidchob. But for me, mr.hotsia, standing amidst the beauty and real life of Buriram people is a deeper experience than expected. This province is not only famous for ancient stone castles such asPhanom Rung Stone CastleorMuang Tam Castlebut it is also a province that still preserves the traditional Isan way of life completely and charmingly.
The first time I arrived in Buriram, what caught my eye was the vast green rice fields stretching as far as the eye can see, and the herds of buffalo peacefully grazing by the fields. I drove along small roads surrounded by these rice fields, stopping to take pictures of a few beautiful buffaloes — a rare sight nowadays. The peace and simplicity here are charms that made me want to slow down and truly experience the lifestyle of Buriram people.
Visiting Phanom Rung Stone Castle: A Beautiful and Mysterious Khmer Heritage
For many travelers, Phanom Rung Stone Castle is a main destination to experience firsthand. I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit during the time when the sun rises and sets aligned perfectly with the 15 doorways of the castle — an event that happens only a few days each year. The atmosphere at sunset here is impressively unforgettable. It feels like stepping back into ancient times when people created art and architecture with intricate detail and deep meaning.
Phanom Rung Castle is located on the summit of an extinct volcano, about 200 meters above the plain, offering beautiful panoramic views of rice fields and vast forests. Getting to the castle is easy; tourists can drive up to the historical park area conveniently.
Muang Tam Castle: A Nearby Beloved Friend You Should Not Miss
Not far from Phanom Rung Castle, there is another ancient site I recommend visiting, which isMuang Tam CastleThis castle is located at a lower elevation than Phanom Rung, as the locals call it. Muang Tam Castle is not as large as Phanom Rung but carries its own peacefulness and mystery. You will see traces of a baray or large reservoir surrounded by stones and architecture that tell stories of past religious rituals.
Exploring Muang Tam Castle with mr.hotsia made me feel more connected to the history and culture of this land. Traveling here is not just about seeing stones and artifacts but understanding the stories and meanings hidden in every stone.
Nang Rong District: The Land of Simplicity and Warmth of Isan People
If you want to experience the true Isan lifestyle, Nang Rong District is a stop I, mr.hotsia, highly recommend. Here you will find lush green rice fields and a peaceful rural atmosphere. I enjoy driving around the district in the evening, stopping to eat rice porridge by the main road or tasting the famous grilled chicken from Huai Thap Than.
Additionally, Nang Rong is home to Luang Pu Mun Temple, one of the largest newly completed temples in the world. The sacredness of this place made me feel peace and strong faith in the local way of life.
Satuek: A Bustling Morning Market and Memorable Elephant Merit Festival
Not far from Nang Rong is Satuek District, where I had the chance to relax and experience local life closely. Satuek is a town with a very lively morning market offering a variety of local foods. I enjoyed walking through the market like a local and was impressed by the friendly and charming people of Satuek.
If you visit during Satuek's Elephant Merit Festival, you will witness the traditional preparation of khayasart dessert and exciting elephant swimming competitions. Also, the night market along the main road is a must-visit for delicious food that will make you lose track of time.
i-mobile Football Stadium: Buriram’s Pride
For football fans, the i-mobile Stadium, home of Buriram United, is one of the most modern and largest stadiums in Thailand. I, mr.hotsia, had the opportunity to visit and experience the passionate atmosphere of Buriram football fans who love their team wholeheartedly.
This stadium can hold up to 17,000 spectators and offers full facilities including parking, athlete rooms, media rooms, and high-level security systems, making every match a major event that Buriram locals never want to miss.
Local Food and Recommended Restaurants by mr.hotsia
During my trip in Buriram, I tried dishes at the famousKrua Mor Oi Restaurantlocated on the way to Sa Kaeo Province. This restaurant is popular among locals and tourists for its spicy soft-fish chili sauce dish that I really liked. They also serve stir-fried basil with stewed beef, beef noodles, and deliciously balanced stewed pork leg with rice.
If you enjoy the atmosphere of a morning market and local food, I recommend stopping bySatuek Morning MarketHere, besides a wide selection of local dishes, you get a chance to truly experience the lifestyle and culture of Buriram people.
Summary of Buriram Travel Experience with mr.hotsia
For me, mr.hotsia, Buriram is not just a province with ancient stone castles and a world-class football stadium. It is a land that beautifully preserves the traditional Isan way of life. Every time I drive past the green rice fields, see buffalo grazing peacefully, stop at morning markets or local restaurants, I feel a simple happiness full of meaning.
If you want a unique travel experience, Buriram Province is the answer that mr.hotsia assures is worth every kilometer traveled.
