Chachoengsao: A city of riverside lifestyle and living culture
I am mr.hotsia, born and raised in Samut Prakan Province, but my life has long been connected with Chachoengsao Province because my home is adjacent to Chachoengsao in Ban Rakat Subdistrict, Bang Bo District. Since childhood, I have experienced the lifestyle of villagers along the canals and the Bang Pakong River, which makes Chachoengsao one of the provinces I know well and love deeply.
When talking about Chachoengsao, or as locals often call it “Paed Riu,” many people probably think ofWat Luang Pho Sothonwhich is the spiritual center for locals and many tourists. I myself grew up with faith in Luang Pho Sothon. Every year during the annual Luang Pho Sothon festival, I see villagers bringing many boiled eggs as offerings. The atmosphere at the temple is filled with faith and lively energy that you won’t find anywhere else. In the past, this temple was very small; people had to row boats across Samrong Canal and stay overnight for two nights to reach it. But today, the Luang Pho Sothon chapel is large and much more convenient, becoming a must-visit tourist attraction.
Chachoengsao travel route recommended by me, mr.hotsia
After visiting Wat Luang Pho Sothon, I usually continue to visitthe Giant Rahu Statueat Wat Saman Rattanaram, located by the Bang Pakong River. This Rahu statue is the largest in Thailand and is a popular pilgrimage route for locals and tourists alike. The peace and grandeur of the Rahu statue deepen my sense of faith every time I visit.
Not far from there, I, mr.hotsia, cross over tothe Stainless Steel Chapelat Wat Hua Thung in Bang Khla District. This chapel is built entirely from stainless steel, offering unique beauty and a cool, refreshing atmosphere. I visited in the afternoon when it was almost empty, but it felt peaceful and like a perfect place to relax the mind. For those who like quiet places, this is another spot I highly recommend.
Markets and food in Chachoengsao that I love
When talking about Chachoengsao, it’s impossible not to mentionthe 100-Year-Old Khlong Suan MarketThis is an old market that still preserves its traditional atmosphere very well. The food and souvenirs here are full of local charm. I often stroll around to buy snacks and experience the ongoing lifestyle of the villagers. This market is like the heart of a small community that I want everyone to experience firsthand.
Another floating market popular on holidays isBang Khla Floating MarketAlthough it only opens on certain days and is not very large, it has its own unique charm with local food and products sold along the Bang Pakong River. I often go there to walk around and taste local dishes.
For seafood and local food lovers, Chachoengsao is famous for “Salted Crab,” especially at the market behind Wat Luang Pho Sothon, which is said to be very popular. Although I’m not sure about the current situation, if you visit this area, don’t miss the chance to try it.
Restaurants I, mr.hotsia, never miss when visiting Paed Riu
A restaurant I highly recommend isMaturot Floating HouseAn old restaurant located on a floating raft on the Bang Pakong River. Anyone who has been to Chachoengsao might know this place well because I used to pass by it when studying at Benjamarachutit Rangsarit School. But as a child, I never had the chance to eat there because I had no money. Now that I’m grown up, I have to try it fully.
The food here is truly delicious in every dish, whether it’s grilled river prawns, spicy river prawn salad, sour crab curry, or salted crab chili paste which is different from others with its bright red salted crab, fresh and rich in flavor. Also, the pork satay here is fresh and so tasty that I have to order it again. The restaurant’s atmosphere floating on the water with a view of the Bang Pakong River bridge makes the meal even more special.
The lifestyle of Chachoengsao people I want everyone to experience
Chachoengsao is not only about main tourist attractions but also about the fascinating lifestyle of villagers along the canals and rivers. I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visitPhanom Sarakham Morning Marketwhich reflects the genuine lifestyle of villagers. Talking with the vendors and locals there made me feel the simplicity and warmth hidden in this small community of Chachoengsao.
At certain times of the year, there is also a dolphin phenomenon at the mouth of the Bang Pakong River, which excites me every time I see it. If you like natural atmospheres and river lifestyles, I recommend contacting local communities to learn and experience the real way of life because there are still many places open for visitors to see the authentic village lifestyle.
Easy travel to Chachoengsao
For those who want to experience Chachoengsao, traveling here is very easy. Take the motorway from Bangkok and get off at the Chachoengsao exit. It takes less than an hour, making this place a popular destination for tourists wanting to escape the city’s hustle, breathe fresh air, visit beautiful temples, and enjoy delicious food full of local flavor.
In summary, Chachoengsao is a province I, mr.hotsia, feel deeply connected to and want everyone to visit. It’s not just an ordinary travel destination but a place full of stories, lifestyles, and authentic flavors of the people living along the Bang Pakong River. I can say for sure... anyone who comes will be impressed every time.
