Maturot Ruan Pae, Chachoengsao: The unforgettable taste of the Bang Pakong River

When it comes to old restaurants in Chachoengsao in my memory, mr.hotsia has to give the top spot toMaturot Ruan PaeThis is not just an ordinary restaurant but a part of the riverside lifestyle along the Bang Pakong River where I grew up and truly experienced.

Originally, Maturot Ruan Pae was a small raft docked in front of Paed Riew Hospital. Over time, the restaurant moved downstream with the current and split into two branches run by relatives. Although separate branches, they still maintain the delicious taste and the floating raft atmosphere perfectly. I still remember sitting here for lunch while enjoying the view of the Bang Pakong River bridge, which is a highlight of this restaurant. The beautiful view and peaceful atmosphere make time seem to slow down.

For those who come to pay respects atWat Luang Pho Sothonwhich is a popular destination for tourists and locals, Maturot Ruan Pae is a perfect choice for lunch. After praying and making wishes, I usually head straight here to recharge with spicy and fresh food.

Flavors and signature dishes that mr.hotsia has proven you must try

I ordered many dishes including grilled river prawns, spicy river prawn salad, sour curry with crab roe, salted crab chili dip, and pork satay. Every dish served was more than just ordinary deliciousness. The river prawns here are large, fresh, and sweet. The sour curry with crab roe is spicy and perfect for those who love bold flavors. The salted crab chili dip, which many might wonder about the type of salted crab used, here uses red salted crab, different from the common large black salted crab, resulting in a smoother and more balanced taste. Also, the spicy prawn salad seemed to have pre-prepared dressing but still tasted rich and unique. Anyone interested should try it themselves.

The pork satay here is tender and fragrant with spices, so delicious that I had to order an extra plate. It’s a perfect appetizer before the main meal.

Travel and surrounding atmosphere

I have known Chachoengsao since childhood. Coming from my hometown in Samut Prakan, which borders Chachoengsao, I have closely experienced the lifestyle along the canals and the Bang Pakong River.Chachoengsao travel informationI have written about the gardens, farms, and community ways of life that still persist despite changing times.

After enjoying lunch at Maturot Ruan Pae, I usually continue to nearby attractions such asthe Giant Rahu Statueandthe Stainless Steel Church at Wat Hua ThungEach place has its own charm and story. Traveling like this makes me feel like I understand Chachoengsao more—not just the places but the lifestyle and culture that still truly exist.
