Oh! Samet Today
Hello, I am mr.hotsia, your travel companion. Today, I will take you to explore Koh Samet, Rayong Province, from a perspective you may have never seen before. Samet is not only famous for its beautiful beaches, clear waters, or youthful parties, but also for its authentic lifestyle and fun experiences waiting for you to discover firsthand.
Start the morning at Wat Lum Market
If you arrive in Rayong, don’t rush to cross over to Koh Samet just yet. I recommend starting your morning early and riding a motorcycle toWat Lum Marketa market that is the heart of fresh seafood and local foods favored by true Rayong locals. Here, I saw a variety of fresh sea fish laid out for sale directly from the villagers, as well as traditional sweets like Khanom Tang Taek, Khanom Krok, Khanom Rang Phueng, and many more that once tasted, you won’t forget.
The atmosphere at Wat Lum Market in the morning is very lively. While browsing the food, I also tried the traditional Rayong-style egg coffee at the nearby ice factory. The rich coffee mixed with perfectly soft-boiled egg yolk was so impressive that I, mr.hotsia, became hooked and have to come back every time I visit Rayong.
Stroll through the Old Wat Lum Market area
After fueling up with breakfast, I invite you to continue walking tothe Old Wat Lum Market areawhich still preserves the houses and charm of old Rayong very well. Walking along the long path from Wat Lum Market, you will see many traditional sweet shops and souvenir stores. If you have the chance, I recommend trying the honeycomb cake here. Its sweet aroma and slightly crispy texture are perfectly balanced.
Importantly, in the morning, you also have the chance to join the alms-giving with the elderly locals in this neighborhood and listen to warm stories about Rayong’s past, which brings your trip to Rayong to life.
Afternoon on Samet with equally beautiful beaches
From the Old Wat Lum Market and Wat Lum Market, we head to Koh Samet, an island considered a must-visit at least once in a lifetime. Koh Samet is not only known for the popular Sai Kaew Beach but also Ao Wong Duean, Ao Thian, Ao Lung Dam, and Ao Wai beaches. Each beach has its own charm and slightly different atmosphere, but overall, you don’t need to worry much about which beach to choose because accommodations and facilities are similarly available everywhere.
For me, mr.hotsia, traveling around Koh Samet is easy and convenient. There are green songthaews (shared taxis) running to all beaches at affordable and regulated prices, so you don’t have to worry about being overcharged. The waiting point in front of the 7-Eleven on the island is clear, with shops, 7-Eleven, and ATMs available, so you don’t need to carry a lot of supplies or food from the mainland.
Regarding accommodation, I recommend booking in advance, especially during festivals or long holidays, because Koh Samet is very popular. There are various prices and styles to choose from, ranging from simple bungalows to luxury resorts scattered along different beaches, all convenient and accessible.
Night on Koh Samet with perfect fun
Koh Samet is not quiet when the sun sets. Each beach is filled with restaurants and bars featuring exciting fire shows. I, mr.hotsia, have watched at Sai Kaew Beach, the most popular gathering spot for tourists and young people. The lively and warm atmosphere makes you forget the fatigue of traveling.
For dinner, some may know Jeab Bungalow, famous for delicious food, or if you stay at a resort, full dining services are available. I recommend trying the spicy Tam Lao sold by street vendors on the beach. The intense flavor adds great color to your night on Koh Samet.Watch the Grilled Chicken and Tam Lao clip on Koh Samet)

) I, mr.hotsia, confirm that Rayong is a top-grade A++ tourist city in Thailand you should not miss, and Samet is an island that still preserves its full charm of nature and local culture. Get ready and let’s have fun!
